Until a few weeks ago, I had never used stainless strings. I used various nickel types and eventually switched to Cobra Coils. Even with the CC's, which are a little brighter than nickel to my ear, The low strings always sounded muddy to me. I am now using D'Addario E9 sets, which are a stainless al...

Hi Larry,
If you are interested in learning to tune by harmonics, it is shown in detail here;

I tune the open strings harmonically and the pulls to a set of numbers.
Have fun!

Ok, now I hear it. After sitting down with headphones and experimenting, here's what I found; The noise occurs when blocking a string with the metal pick. Kind of a "clank" as the string is stopped. Interestingly, once the note was blocked, it was completely blocked. With the plastic pick,...

I use the ProPik metal pick in the small size as I have skinny fingers. I re-bend the ring (make it smaller) in order to lengthen the blade, making it more like a standard pick. I used the Dunlops for a while and liked them, although the blade was too short for me. There is something about the weigh...

It was either learn more tunes on the guitar that I'd never get to play, or learn the instrument I always wanted to, but never thoug...

John,
You definitely get my meaning. The angle, etc. are problems and I'm sure much worse on a sd12.
I've been trying to think of a tool, like a screwdriver with a curved blade, that could drive the bushing back more gracefully.
If only we could use the socket trick from the inside out.

What has worked for me, and I think I've seen Jerry do, is tap the bushing outward with a screwdriver and a hammer. It works like magic if you hit it just right.
Please others chime in if this is wrong advice.

Hello all,
Three and a half years for me. The time frame was more due to fate than anything else.
I am now happily gigging with a traditional country band.
Making a fool of myself weekly at the local senior center jam session for about a year helped a great deal.

I am not really a younger player (45yrs) but am a new player (3.5yrs). The steel I fell in love with was all E9 stuff. I didn't have much affinity for Western Swing or the C6 sound. Now I love it! I play a lot of standards as well and can't wait to try 'em out on the C-neck. Sometimes I wish I had b...

Happens to me frequently.
When I was a teenager I would often hear the Grateful Dead playing in my mind. No particular song but always inspired, soaring jams. These days it's usually just white noise turned into jazz.

It is surprising that this experience is not universal among musicians.

With E's lowered and AB depressed you get a m7b5 one fret up from no pedals on strings 8,7,6,5.

Am7b5 at fret 6 with AB+E on strings 8,7,6,5.

Beginner's advice. Buyer beware!

Hi Gary,
I most commonly use C augmented to go from C to F, or the 1 to the 4.

A nice transition from C to F:AB at third fret, engage F lever and slide up four frets, release F and slide up one more fret to F at fret eight w/ A+B.

They are almost imperceptible through the Vox and subtle through the blues deluxe. It is...
