Donny, you said exactly what my feelings are about the Opry, only I am not able to express myself as eloquently as you did. The Opry has lots of competition nowdays that it didn't have 20 years ago.... ------------------ Pete Hunter
[This message...

Smiley Roberts wtote "You may have that song confused w/:"Come On Home And Sing The Blues To Daddy". I believe, this was Bob Luman's song." You are correct about Bob Luman doing that song but I can still close my eyes and hear Bob doing "The only daddy that will walk the line...

I'm almost 99.99% positive that Bob Luman (sp) also recorded "The Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line" before he passed away. He did a good job on it too.

I made a couple of lap steels out of white oak and they sounded great and had a pretty bright sound to them. Almost any hard wood will work as long as it's close grained.

I haven't tried one of their kits but have bought parts from them and have always been pleased.

Stewart McDonald also has Reso kits in their new catalog that just came out a few days ago. You can even buy just the top, back, or sides.

Here in Springfield, MO. we have KTTS AM Classic Country 7 x 24 and they are on the web too. They play ONLY classic country from about 1950 to 1975 or 1980. It's nice but now I never hear any new songs that hit the charts. I doubt I'm missing too much. They have KTTS FM for all the new country liste...

Johnny, Your posts and some others are very well said and hit the nail on the head. It's all in what you like and your interpretation of CW. I also like it pure and country with a lot of acoustic instruments. A couple of weeks back I got flamed really bad for saying some of the old timers needed to ...

I think we need Buck Owens in there someplace also. I remember when I was in High School in the mid 60's that Buck had a lot of songs on the charts back then too along with HAG and he also helped shape the direction Country music went at that time. I remember every jam session I went to back then th...

Mike, If you ever make another metal body reso find and "old timey" sheet metal shop and have them use a "burring" machine to turn the 1/4" flange on the top and bottom. It will make a nice clean bend on the edges. Some of the newer modern shops wouldn't know what a burring ...

I will post pictures for sure when I am done with it but it will probablt be 2 months or so as I am just starting on it. I was going to use the Beard plans then found a friend with an old National who wanted a new resonator put in it so while I had it apart I did some measuring and am making it off ...

Hi Mike, I'm not a member of ASIA but would to read your article. I have built a few Lap Steels and a couple of Reso guitars but don't currently still own any of them. I used to play PSG back in the late 60's in SE, Missouri. Played with Narville Felts and some of that group for awhile. Currently I ...

Dave, It isn't anything personal against her at all, IMHO the Lady just can't sing anymore. She was great in her day and I DO love REAL COUNTRY MUSIC as much as you do. I hated the Beatles and all the Rock and Rock n Roll since then. The bottom line is if country music is to survive it must make som...

As for the first 2 listed, YUK. I love Loretta Lynn although time is working on her a bit but she's still great. I don't know much about Paul Brandt. I was told by some people in Branson last week that one reason that a lot of the newer artists (age 40 and below) don't want to be on the Opry is they...

I didn't even turn the Opry on last night. IMHO Jimmy D. never did sound good and needs to be gone along with C. Louvin. I'm sure they are both great guys but they don't help promote country music with all of the new challenges that it faces as have been discussed here in the past. They did pretty g...

Pre Amp & Equalizer?

Does anyone know of a source for an inexpensive Pre-Amp & Equalizer to build into an acoustic guitar. I'm looking for one similar in looks to the ones that Ovation and others use and run off of a 9v battery. I think most of them have a 3 band equalizer and are inset into the side of the guitar. ...

I personally would like to see some of the old icons gone from the Opry. Some of these old duffers haven't had a record on the charts on 20 years including Jeannie Sealey, Jean Sheppard, Bill Carlilse, Little Jimmy dickens, and on and on. There are a lot of artists still available to be front liners...
