Xavier, believe it or not, those two songs from the soundtrack of Broken Circle Breakdown are the reason for my topic:) We wanted to play the songs and I nearly got mad figuring out the tunes... for Sandmountain I'm tuning to Gm, The Boy... in ordinary G. For Sandmountain, our banjo player tunes to ...

Dobro Minor tuning on minor songs ?

Hello Forumites, I got a question about Dobro tuning. Being very new to resonator guitar, I don't know if you tune your Bs to Bb when playing a minor song (like for example The boy who wouldn't hoe corn). Seems to be a little bit easier when it comes to pulling offs, but quite sure I am terribly wro...

I think, that Eric Heywood is playing a 11-string Williams. My friend and fellow forumite Tucker Jackson informed me, that Eric raises the first string to G# instead of G. (You can hear it on Son Volt songs like "Windfall"). Best regards, Stefan

Same, but different :)

I am really not allowed to judge the BJS bar, because I never used or even saw one... but we all know, how much dough you can spend as a six string guitarist on getting "THE TONE" (preferably 60's reference sounds). True bypass FX, handselected and mouthblown tubes, cords with a "dire...

Problem solved !!!!

Friends of the steel, many, many thanks to all of you who took their time to help me out. Problem solved. It was really as easy as changing to a wound sixth string... the guitar is now raising perfectly (and even the pedal "feel" is better now). Once again - thanks a lot, to all of you. :D...

Ryan, I'm using a plain 6th. I'm living in Germany, so I have the choice between 2 - 3 different brands of PSG strings. All of them have plain 6th. Maybe I can switch the 6th to a wound ordinary guitar string, I have to check the gauges.
Thank you ! Stefan

Uneven raises

Dear Forumites, I've got a problem with the raises on my Pro 1. Every help is appreciated very much. Strings 6 and 3 do not raise simultaneously. The 3rd raises smoothly during the whole pedal movement. The 6th starts to raise after the pedal travel is halfway through. I thought that the slack at th...

Hi, I'm totally with you. Jerry is simply a dream to deal with. I bought a Pearse bar from him and he sent it over to Germany for a fantastic price and in no time. Very nice contact as well. And despite sharing our last name it was not a case of family business:)

Thank you all for your input and opinions !!! Good to hear that in most cases the "pot metal" Buds are good for years and years of playing and delivering that great sound. I'll keep my eyes open for a Pro I - the one that was sold off the forum last week was a beauty :)

Pot Metal ShoBuds

Dear Forumites ! Somehow I got the dreadful urge being a ShoBud owner someday...I learned at the forum that from a certain year on ,the undercarriage was made out of lesser quality metal and read stories about knee levers breaking in the middle of the best solo ever played by mankind:) I'm living in...

DIY Bar Holder

Germany isn't exactly Steel Guitar Heaven when it comes to accessories... so I decided to build my own bar holder. All you need is two clips originally made for mounting brooms to a wall and two rivets (or two small screws w/ nuts). Just rivet the two clips together back to back. Finito ! I like the...

Old Marlen - pull/release or all pull ?

Dear Forumites, I've got a question concerning this Marlen guitar which popped up at the bay: being a beginner I don't have a clue how I could tell a pull/release from an all pull changer. I know that older Marlens had the pull/release, but I'm not sure about the construction year of this one. So, a...
