Anyone have thoughts on the EMG SES pickup?
I am putting together my specs for a 6 string lap. I am very "retiree budget conscious", and want to limit requests that add to the base price. I had thought of having a P90 put in for playing blues, but that will be additional cost. The EMG SES the builder uses, is a stacked dual coil, an...

I would like to stay under $400, and have been considering a Melbert, since his shop is about 4 hours West of my home. That GB looks real nice, though. My GAS was bad in the '80's, before the internet, it is getting out of control now, and being on a limited retirement income, I have to stick to the...

Clearwater Laps from the UK?
Anyone in the US bought one? Wondering what the shipping was. The seller requires a winning bid before they will quote shipping to the US. They say you can cancel if shipping is too high. I would rather not get that far to find out. I have a weakness for inexpensive "eye candy". And a pair...

Well I posted this right before I recieved a bridge from Guitar Fetish. I installed it anyway, since the SX adjustable saddle on the 6th string, was eating a hole in my palm. The intonation has little effect that I can hear, but the radius does concern me. I wonder if the small intonated saddles on ...

Replacement Bridge for SX Lap
I have read that some of you are replacing the bridge on the SX Lap with a Les Paul Jr wrap-around bridge from Guitar Fetish. These are radius'd and intonated. Does this present problems?

No video, but Greg Cutshaw's site is a favorite of mine for tabs and mp3s on the 6 string lapsteel. It's free.Eric Davidson wrote:And if anyone has a recommendation for an instructional DVD that would be great.

Distance between necks on console?
What is the optimal distance between 2 lap steels sitting on a console? Or is it just a player's pref?
Is 8.5" too much? If different scales, what would be the best point to line them up at?
thanks

JD Maness with Will Ray
I have owned the Invisible Birds CD for a while, but in talking to Will Ray (Hellecasters)at a guitar show, I mentioned JD. He said he appeared on a track on that CD. Wow, how did I overlook that track. Maybe because it was last and the only track with PSG. This 30 second sample here fades out befor...

The Swannanoa Gathering is a summer program, just east of Asheville, NC., and has classes on a mix of various acoustic guitar styles during July 25-31. It has a couple of Dobro classes a day, taught by Sally Van Meter. Other classes include slide guitar, fingerstyle blues, celtic, slack key, and var...

Another Option for a backpacker
I got this off of eBay after having good luck with their electro-acoustic guitars. It is an Enorez Voyager. It is about 3" shorter than the Martin Backpacker and its' design will handle heavier strings. Plus it sits in a lap better. It is 32" long and weighs 2 lbs 6 oz. with a 23" Sca...

Well I have found I pick best with finger picks but no thumb pick. I have developed pretty fast melody picking with my thumbnail at about 70 degrees off soundboard, and have found using a thumb pick is like throwing away 40 years of muscle memory and starting over. For finger picks I have found the ...

Thanks Brad
It was your review of the SX LG1 that led me to this site. I ordered one and it is due in today. So I am about to enter the world of lap steels any hour now. I have been a regular buyer at Rondo's for years. I own a few of their $100 tele's and jazz basses. I hope their $100 lap steel is as good a b...

New Here with Question on Picks
I have been fooling around lately with my Regal RC-1 in my lap. I found this website from doing a search on a SX lap steel that I have ordered. My problem is thumb and finger picks. I have been travis picking acoustic guitars for about 40 years using only nails. I am resisting challenging that many ...
