Gary and Rains come to the rescue!

Just wanted to mention that Gary Carpenter is a stand up guy! Called today needing a pedal rod(since I'd lost one of mine at a gig) for the Carpsteel. He said he'd have one in the mail for me tomorrow...hopefully here by Friday. Considering they aren't making them(carpsteel) in house anymore, I'd th...

I've had one since February! So far so good, it sounds great with my amp, it's super light, and requires very little maintenance. I went back and forth about throwing some money at a used steel, and, figured since I'd never owned one, it would be better for me to have one straight from the factory. ...

Haven't forgotten my bar, but, I've certainly lost my slide for my six string. I could have sworn it was on my amp, but, a half full pint glass did just fine for one solo :)

...probably shouldn't be leaving drinks on my cabinet though...

I was feeling like I'd hit a wall, then I walked over to my next door neighbor's house and ripped some high volume steel with him playing drums and a couple of his buddies playing along. Good jam with some guys I don't play with all the time got my bar moving and trying some new things. It's good to...

Another vote for George L's. I played through some ridiculously expensive cables before settling on them. Just sound right through my amps with my guitars. I noticed the biggest difference with my alnico 2 equipped Les Paul through non-master volume amps...yeah...that seems excessive...but, I'm pick...

Are you running parallel out of the DI to the board and the amp? Or using the DI to alter the impedance of your signal into the amp? If it's going to the board, sometimes a ground lift will solve the problem. Also, if the DI is passive, make sure there isn't a pad on the output. Phantom power (+48v)...

Robert Randolph and Sacred Steel on Jimmy Fallon

Wow, three steel guitars at once ripping up Purple Haze with The Roots. That was fun. Gotta be thirty-ish strings just up front...nice Sierra he was working on!

Probably be up on youtube soon enough.

I'm interested to hear the new Hendrix material that they're promoting on the show.

First gig on PSG!

Played a show on Friday night with the Carpsteel and got a whole lot of compliments on my tone through my Dr. Z KT-45. I was going for that buttery, singin' tone with a little hair on it. The Carpsteel had amazing clarity in our five piece and cut right through the piano and tele, while still sittin...

IMO, you made the right choice going with new gear. I went back and forth for months trying to decide what to buy, ended up with a new Carpsteel and couldn't be happier. Less maintenance equals more time to play! ...oh yeah, make sure to do something nice for the wife, as she may not be seeing you a...

I don't have much experience with the student/intermediate models out there, but, the Carpsteel has been an absolute gem so far. It feels solid for as little as it weighs, and has heavy duty components. It holds it's tuning and is a breeze to play. I got a great deal from Billy Carr on this forum. S...

Just broke my 4th, probably need to replace the 3rd also. Anybody know what the standard string gauges are for the carpsteel? I don't really want to mess around with any adjustments if I restring. Re: Multi-Instrumentalists chime in!

Seems to me the best primer for pedal steel is to play everything else first. I think that Jerry Byrd and Buddy Emmons played steel guitar first. That's downright impressive! I couldn't imagine starting on an instrument like this without some previous experience with theory/voicings/etc. Good on em...

Multi-Instrumentalists chime in!

From what I've read on here, several PSG players are also playing several other instruments with their bands. As a beginner on pedal steel, I'm starting to realize that it's the combination of skills that you'd learn on other instruments. Piano players are used to harmonizing with themselves, fiddle...

I use a Dr. Z KT-45 and it's been nothing but reliable and has clean headroom that rivals most tube amps I've tried, including some with triple the wattage. Loud, punchy, and a very simple layout. Couldn't be happier. Oh...and the head weighs next to nothing...
