One more vote for Amazing Slow Downer! As for the free alternatives their sound is much inferior to ASD which offers 4 different modes including Karaoke which will strip out the vocals or instrument in the center channel. I've heard good things about Transcribe which will also spell out the notes he...

I've been doing most of my browsing the past few years using Android tablets running versions 4.2 and 4.4. I save my PC for more serious tasks, usually off-line (I am running Windows 7 right now although my preference is the 64 bit Enterprise version of XP.)

The first two steels I got were Morrell 8 stringers which I tuned to E13 and C6. I'd use the E13th when trying to play along to Hank Williams tunes but one day picked up the C6 by mistake and didn't notice it for about a half hour. "What the heck is going on???"

If you need to repair or modify an amp it is much easier with an eyelet or turret board. However companies like Mesa Boogie use thick double-sided pcb's with large ground planes to reduce noise. As already mentioned pots or tube sockets mounted directly to a pcb are an accident waiting to happen. St...

Although outside the OP's price range I have to give a big two thumbs up to the Bugera V22 Infinium. The clean channel gets really loud and stays clean while the OD channel goes from low gain overdrive to Robben Ford/Dumble tones. Street price for the combo is $400 new with the head around $330 alth...

If you already have legs but the threads aren't right a trip to the hardware store can offer a low cost alternative. I was able to use brass plumbing fittings and threaded rod to adapt legs for a Supro (I had to use a tap to thread the inside of the flare fittings.) Thanks for posting a source for *...

Favorite new pedals (new for me)

Favorite new pedals (new for me, that is) Behringer UV-300 for $25 : I love the sound that Lonnie Mack gets with his Magnatone amps on his old recordings but was wondering what he was using in his big tours for Alligator Records in the 80's. The Boss VM-2 vibrato pedal, discontinued decades ago. It...

With a steel on your lap I think that your arm tends to pivot as you move up and down the fretboard while with a stand your arm (and body) has more freedom of movement. With the steel on your lap you can know exactly where it is so you could theoretically play with your eyes closed. However you shou...

Thanks

I am no expert on this but I would call it an F/9 or Fadd9 as there is no b7th (Eb).

Removing glued-in reso cone in Dobro s/n 1939

I got this Dobro in ~1978 and while over-tightening the screw back then damaged the cone. I ordered a replacement cone from Dobro and I evidently glued it in. Ouch! :( I have no idea what kind of glue I used back then- probably carpenter's glue but maybe something solvent based. If it is white glue ...
