Can anyone identify this vintage lap steel?

Can anyone identify this vintage lap steel? I've never seen one quite like it. Maybe it was a custom build? It suggests Epiphone a little but I don't know of any old steels with a headstock like this. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1205/9401_5N35E65J13K73G53M2c83e9e4041cb5801058_1.jpg http://...

Thanks for the guess. It might have been them. Either way, you've tipped me off to some good stuff. Their Stereolab cover is infectious.

Steel guitar at Barnes & Noble

I was at a Barnes & Nobles the other day and they played a steel guitar instrumental on the store sound system. They usually play, shall we say, modern and radio-friendly music. Are there any contemporary musicians putting out (possibly hawaiian inspired) steel guitar songs for a wide audience? ...

3/4 parlor acoustic vs weissenborn

I'd like to learn acoustic steel, but can't commit to spending the $ on an entry level weissenborn at the moment. I was thinking of picking up a cheap used 3/4 parlor size guitar (such as a Baby Taylor, Little Martin LX1/LXM, or Fender Newporter) and trying it with an extension nut. I like the size ...

It's wood, but with a nice stripe decal that runs around it.

Any info on my Boen lap steel

I picked up this Boen lap steel. Does anybody on the forum know anything about these instruments? It needed some TLC, but I cleaned it up a bit. I read that Jim Boen was making pedal steels in the 80s, but haven't found any other info. Thanks. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0912/9401_boen1_1....

He definitely indulges in odd instruments.
I really admire what he's doing in this clip that Brad posted once in another thread:

Freddie Roulette

I'll be making a business trip to San Francisco in March. Does anybody know if Freddie Roulette is performing these days? I can't find any contemporary info, but would love to see him in whatever context.

My personal inclination in this scenario would be to save up a bit and look at an Asher EH Jr. However, if you feel better about buying new then go for it. I would consider a used Asher EH Jr over the Dynalap. This might seem like an insignificant question, but how much larger is the Asher body com...

I found this Supro with legs on Craigslist. It would be about the same price as a Dynalap with stings and finishing supplies. Based on everyone's recommendations, I feel like I should pass on the Supro and go with the legless Dynalap due to the versatility of stringing it up with either 6 or 8 strin...

Many thanks to everyone for their replies.
The unanimous praise is certainly pushing me towards the Dynalap.

I'm surprised I haven't heard from any Valco or Magnatone fans.

Danny- I also happen to love Willie's guitar playing.

Vintage vs. New, 6 vs. 8 - advice for a soon to be player

I finally decided to pull the trigger but not sure what to pull it on. I'd like a vintage Valco or an under $300 new instrument. People keep mentioning that the string thru pickups are great for blues or dirty tones, but does that mean that they are ill suited for Hawaiian playing? If not vintage, I...

Please help identify these 2 Nationals

Can anybody confirm that this is a National? Link to first one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380199048389 It certainly has many features that are similar to the Nationals I've seen, but I've never seen one like this. I've uploaded a pic of the second one. I have no idea wha...
