I think he's really out of the Ben Keith school of playing. Always present to in the song, but very complementary, and above all great tone

I've put in a JBL, change V1 to 12AT7, and change all the Valve's to at least JJ's, both the 6l6's and 12ATX7's and you'll have a great small amp for both guitar and steel. I reckon a 2x12 Deville with JBL's and good quality valves would make a great steel valve amp.
