Very cool Ben. I was happy to see this video pop up the other day. These guitars seem to pop up from time to time and not a lot has been spoken of them. I think Mike did a great job in showing how good the aesthetic line in these instruments is - that shape is just spot on, something a lot of makers...

The problem with a capo on a Weissenborn is that it will suffer from a lack of bass and sustain. The 'sustain killer' moniker is true of ANY capo on a Weissenborn, however there are some better than others. As mentioned above this mostly because of the common floating designs which offer no feedback...

Both styles are original, however if your buttons are disintegrating that would be unusual for the celluloid used on the Weissenborn era tuners. Here is a picture of the two basic styles of tuner that shows orientation: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh127/TonyFrancisM/Style2Restoration_zps97033...

Re: Teardrop
Thanks for posting Andy. Teardrops are always in short supply. Could've kicked myself on that one that IM is selling per Ben's comments...I was also bidding on it and chickened out since I had other expenses going on at the time...I think it went for $3k or $4k if I recall. Anyway, I will never aga...

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I wanted to talk a little about the inspiration for this guitar. When Rob picked out the Koa wood for this instrument, it reminded me of a guitar that I love, A Ca.1927 Style 1 that I restored and sold to one of my favorite French musicians Flotis. Although a simp...

Amazing photos George! Not the work of an craftsman with a half century experience, unless he had never made guitar braces before. Knutsen? An assistant, maybe? Hermann's wife Concepcion? I tend to agree, that brace work does not look like craftsman's work. Nor does it fit with the rest of the instru...

That's a really interesting point you raise Darrell, to be honest I had never thought flipping the issue on its head like that! The guitar featured over in this thread: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=205297 George mentioned that he thought Knutsen was involved in the instruments cons...

Thanks for the info guys!! Ben, which one's seem to be more desirable/valuable? The earlier or later ones? Also, do only the earliest Weissenborn's have the picture label? What should one look for when thinking about buying an original? Bill Asher gave me some good tips like always checking the bra...

...but I am the walking encyclopedia on Weissenborns. And modest too! All kidding aside, we are all looking forward to your book Ben, whenever you get around to it! that Weissenborns might amount to a footnote to a chapter I am not sure if this is directed at George's book or not but either way I h...

I thought I should post a little here about Paddy's shop, for those who don't get a chance to visit! Going to Paddys shop is an incredible experience. Park at the street end (if your lucky), and up on the hill Paddy's soft incandescent work light shines out like a beacon of musical solace in the hea...

Hi Chris, I know we have always discussed this privately but I thought I would post here for the benefit of other players and hopefully a continual refinement of sound. Traditionally, Weissenborn instruments have always been fitted with sound hole mounted pickups because the wire saddle setup (which...

It appears that you've all underestimated the price! http://cgi.ebay.com/Weissenborn-Hawaiin-Lapsteel-Slide-Guitar-1-3-/400193581258 good luck with that one Guitars like this are hard to put a figure on, although I think its safe to say that seller is optimistic. Chris, Early Style 1s with the paper label are exceedingly rare. And while perhaps these are more of a collectors instrument than musicians tool, none the less are wonderful sounding guitars. I recommend you try contacting George (Tom) Noe, for more information about this guitar. http://www.noeenter...
