Since you have to move the volume pedal out of the signal chain and into the pre-eq patch to make the change you describe, you may be connecting the volume pedal backward at the pre-eq patch. Limited volume range is the symptom I notice when I connect my pedal backward (which I still do all too ofte...

One of my Nashvilles developed the same symptoms, and I unplugged the connector so that I could continue to use the amp until I could get it on the bench. It turned out that the four reverb-connector pins that are soldered into the circuit board had developed cracked solder joints. I had to remove t...

The theme to the Jackie Gleason Variety Show is called Melancholy Serenade, and Jackie Gleason gets credit for writing it. There is some resemblance to Nauges in the opening lines. I have looked for the sheet music to Melancholy Serenade for years so I could do a harmonically sound version for steel...

The steel guitar work on Dollar Bill really is smooth and enjoyable. Now that I can't seem to get this tune out of my head, I only wish my steel guitar playing recorded that smoothly. Nice job.

Keith, A balanced line provides a pair of connections that are both floating above chassis and earth ground. This could be the output of a push-pull or similar type circuit or a transformer. The common XLR-to-phone adaptors often contain a transformer to get both lines above ground. A balanced input...

Dennis, The wiring scheme furnished with the George-L pots is correct for an audio-taper pot. The resistance element in the pot has more of its resistance concentrated at one end than at the other. This means that if you set the pot at mid-rotation and measure resistance between the center terminal ...

Cramolin is the name of an older product by CAIG Laborotories. It came in two colors, red and blue. Both have been replaced by more environmentally-friendly products, the red by DeoxIT and the blue by PreservIT. All the above mentioned products seem to work equally well in my experience.

The product that I swear by for conductivity issues is called DeoxIT and is available from CAIG Laboratories (www.caig.com). This product can be used on male and female connectors and on switches and pots(if you have the skills to disassemble and reassemble them). They also offer a product called Pr...
