WTB vintage Charlie Christian pickups

I'm looking for original Gibson CC bar pickups, from the 1930s through 1960s. Can be a single blade or have notches, and with white binding on the edges. I'm looking for both the regular version with long horizontal magnets, and also the smaller U shaped magnet version, where the magnet does not ext...

I don't remember if this was ever discussed here, but a year ago at Deke Dickerson's Guitar Geek Festival, there were a couple of Alvino's instruments on display. I never got the scoop on them, but he seemed to have the most unusual things. Scroll down on this page, and look at the third photo. http...

I love Alvino Rey so much. If he's not the most underrated entertainer of the 20th century, I don't know who is. So important to the history of popular music, and virtually unknown to my generation.

I love weird early experimental pickups. If nobody here was planning on bidding, I'm happy to throw a little bit at it, and report back to the group on what the heck it is!

I'll admit that I have one of these Selmer branded Ricks myself. Best I can tell, the parts are all made by Rickenbacher, and they shipped them over unassembled, and they were finished in England. For instance, the horseshoe is definite the same as the normal Rick, but the coil looks a little bit di...

We are not rational, us who love music and instruments! On some of the forums with, er, people who are interested in more conventional instruments, they always want to establish what THE ONE REAL PRICE is. And yeah, sometimes things get strange, like with the Silvertones. To keep going with silly me...

Ah, well first off you'll notice that I didn't defend the seller's price in my last message. Yes there is a threshold, but I think this listing is merely too high, as opposed to offensive, bloated, and an erosion of culture. Yep, that does happen sometimes, everyday even. This guy just used a ₤ sign...

The roundneck Spanish bakelite guitars are not only historically important (first commercially built solidbody electric "spanish" guitars) but they also sound amazing, and like nothing else on earth. They got it right the first time, sound-wise. The weight, the short scale, bakelite frets,...

Haha, I bet that's a half-decent guitar. I like the guitar in your avatar pic as well... pearloid all the way. I realized from reading some other posts that there's some dispute as to whether or not to call these steel pickups (with two rows of exposed poles) PAFs or not. But y'all know what I mean.

WTB early Gibson steel humbuckers

I'm looking for PAF or early patent number humbuckers for a Gibson steel. Can be 6 pole or 8 or anything.

Does anybody actually read the WTB section? :)

Who needs volume? Who needs tone? Not I! You'll be happy with it. For playing at home and recording it should at least lend a different sound than you already have. Good luck! Write back in, when it's done. I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Yes I have one and it sounds great! It sounds especially nice with the guitar meant to go with it, with a horseshoe pickup, but they work well with modern instruments, and with "spanish" guitars too... I like it with a telecaster. The sound is hard to describe, but at low volume, it's surp...

Oh this thread is back! If you want to trash a style of music that is foreign to you, at least try to get the details right. Death metal and black metal are not very related, so far as I can tell (and I'm no expert). Black metal is an avant-garde style, and owes quite a bit to the history of 20th ce...

Yes gut was indeed the material of non-steel-strung instruments until the 1940s. I put some new Aquila gut strings on my 20s Martin 3M uke and really like them. The seem to intonate better on the instrument. Martin guitars pre-1928 or so were also designed for gut strings. I can't comment on any of ...

Black Metal is actually some of the strangest, artiest "popular" music out there these days. I don't listen to it, but I do have some friends who are tangentially involved in it, and they're very smart people. It's a very specific subculture, not to be confused with traditional metal, or g...

I just pulled mine out. No model number that I could find on it. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a schematic for one this early, but the circuit can't be all that complex. These can be great sounding amps. Wish I could be of more help... good luck with it!

That's quite an amp there! This is one of the earliest amps Rickenbacher made. Note the huge ol house fuse, and no volume or tone controls. Is that an on/off switch, or just plug straight in? It also looks like a volume or tone control was added, on the inside next to the three tubes on the right. I...

I'd guess that the Rickenbacher is a 1935 from the single volume knob. There should be a serial number stamped into the very top end of the headstock. What is it? I'd guess that it might be worth a little bit more, as it is very early. That Rickenbacker is coincidentally one of the instruments in a ...
