Saw him for the first time in 1980 in Saratoga Springs, NY. I was 22 and went alone to the concert. He was standing in the door of the bus signing autographs so I got on line. When I got to the door he reached out his hand for the thing he was supposed to sign, but I had nothing. He then looked up a...

Absolute class act and a man driven to give listeners the best product all the time ... recorded or live. Saw him three times with the Eagles; '81, 2X during the Farewell I Tour and in May 2012 on his 'After Hours' tour promoting his new solo album. For us steel players, take a listen to Glenn's cov...

Saw Norm play last night in Morristown NJ. Merle put on a great show. Merle said that Norm has been with him on the road since 1967. Wow! what an accomplishment. Norm played great and with such wonderful tone. He's the steel player I grew up on and one of the reasons I play steel today.

Those beginners out there looking to play pedal steel will do very well to follow what Larry and Barry (sounds like a law firm) are promoting. I bought my first pedal steel in Oct of 06 and up until two weeks ago have been all self taught. I have used very, very little tab charts in my pedal steel j...

My Korg multi-electronic tuner stopped working about three weeks and I am considering purchasing a Peterson tuner for two purposes. 1) Tuning my Fessenden U12 and 2) setting up the intonation on six strings guitars I am building. What is the better choice, the Strobo-Flip or the Strobostomp2? Pros /...

I purchased a new S-10 with narrow arm pad from Chet in Nov 2006. Standard E9 3x4 with an George L E-66 PU, Steel #72 built in Oct 2006. I bought it (without playing it) after playing some poorly sounding Starters and Mavericks. Great tone, stayed in tune, nice 'n easy pedal and lever action. I knew...

I switched my Fessy U12 to incorporate Paul Franklin's P4 setup (based the chart B0b posted in ths thread). It is a great addition to my E9 playability. I see on that same chart that Paul has an additional raise on pedal 3 that raises the 8th string from E to F#. What does that raise provide since t...

C6 / B6 Pedal Recommendations

I have a Fessenden U12 that is tuned for E9/B6. The RKL on my steel lowers the two E’s down to Eb to achieve the B6. It is an 8 pedal steel and the 8th pedal raises the 5 & 6 strings to C# and A# respectively. Any of you C6 or B6 players have a recommendation for copedents for the seventh pedal ...

Clete, it's great to see how much fun you're having putting together the Fessy 12.

While looking back over this thread I saw Jerry Hayes' post about dropping the low B down to A on pedal 1. I tried it out for myself ... You're right Jerry, I love it. It's a keeper!

Clete, I have Mike’s tuning chart as a reference and it is quite different than the set-up I am using. What I like about this set up is that there are 4 pedals for the E9 mode and 4 pedals for the B6 mode. I, like you, played only a single neck E9 before getting my Fessenden 12. The most significant...

I purchased my Fessy S-12 five months ago from G.D. Walker. It is a black mica unit with armrest and an older logo. G.D. said he got it on trade from Jerry for one of his stereo amp systems. G.D. set up the steel with a Zero Pedal. P0 is in the far left position replacing pedal 1 and shifting all of...
