Eureka

I just received this guitar (and related bars, picks and ephemera) today...in France. Waiting for strings before I can see/hear what I've got. It is in relatively good shape and has some excellent pearloid going on!

Re: Tail piece

Interesting tail piece, any special functions there? This looks to be a Hipshot Trilogy bridge. when set up correctly you can get 3 pitches per string and literally dozens of tunings available on the fly with great stability. I had one (6 string) for many years and it worked great. This is a beauti...

If you are thinking of permanently relocating, typically you are allowed to bring in ONE container without VAT as part of the relocation process (we did it when we relocated to France from TX in 2017). Of course, each country in the EU is slightly different and I don't know what the details are for ...

Michael Stevens has built the new one ("Old Blue") and is hand delivering it to Junior today/tomorrow (with the plan that Junior will use it at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday).

The old one has not yet been recovered.

Mystery Lap steel D-8 vintage

I'm hoping someone can help me identify this most interesting steel. D-8 with sliding/adjustable pickups. It looks to me to be 1940s or 1950s but that is just a guess. Thanks

Both pickups are DeArmond model 1000s, one of the most popular floating pickups for archtops in decades past. They were not available installed at the Gibson factory but many were added by players over the years. They could be purchased with attached controls, as seen on that L-5, or without. They ...

I agree with the "go for it" sentiment Mike. I think you are the kind of musician that can and will inspire players to look beyond the "Hawaiian" or "Western Swing" tonality and repertoire of lap steel and get folks to see the instrument with fresh eyes and ears. In fac...

Herb had one of the greatest "musical vocabularies" and senses of humor that I have ever witnessed. He would quote jazz, pop, country and rock songs in his solos with such musicality. A joy to see and hear. One of the best parts of living in TX was seeing Herb live. #legendary

I think the "reverb" is just the way the cabinet is miked in the room. They are not using the speaker in Leo's original amp.

If Jason says there are no effects...there are no effects. SO it must be studio/miking.
