Steinar seems to have touched a whole lot of people in different ways. He liked something goofy that I did, and I loved something beautiful that he did. I wanted to send him something... I guess this is it. RIP man.

If you're shopping for a quote, you can try me too, I make laser etched acrylic and wood inlay boards, helped Leroy with his mirror boards. The hard part is deciding what to make, there are endless variations. The laserable plastic is interesting stuff. Here's yesterday's project... http://bb.steelg...

Getting all those angles and steps... ... I feel for you ... Indeed. When you look at guitars like these, or like Tom's, you have to realize that the work can be somewhat akin to playing chess on a roller-coaster. My hat is off to them for what can only be described as a labor of skill, patience an...

Mark, How did you ground the Corian bridge? There's a bit of copper foil on the bottom of the bridge that the string ends are touching, ground wire is soldered to that. Good question. Glad to hear you're busy Don, but I wanna see that triple 8) http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0912/8670_7strfi...

Thanks all. Roger, it's just E Maj, same as you'd find on a 6 string, with an extra G#. My plan is to make so many that I am forced to sell them to save my marriage ;-) Stan, I was surprised that the corian was brighter than I expected. I'd surmise it would be a lot like bone, but I have no bone bri...

7 string build complete

I had been waiting forever it seemed for a bridge I designed for this guitar but my friend the machinist, well, let's just say that downtime isn't an issue for him at the moment :) So one day I was thinking about Corian which I have been using for making nuts, and I thought, 'why not make this bridg...

Thanks for the dimensions Doug! I sound terrible already, and play mostly in open E major (where getting at the minor would be very cool). I was thinking of making one that worked so that sliding the mini-bar all the way to the right was just right for say the 7th fret, and all the way to the left w...

The problem really is that steel players are not writing enough of their own music. The other side is when they do write, who knows it's a steel? I listened to Gilmour for decades without knowing he was playing lap steel at all. I prolly owe my salvation to YouTube. I'm making steels in a fairly pu...

Great word!

Too close can also produce a nasty sort of fast tremolo that won't go away - caused by the magnets pulling on the strings.

Maybe a dumb question but I gotta ask... you're pushing down with the bar a little bit right? It's firmly contacting the string you're playing.

And you're damping the strings to the left of the bar too, right?

It's just that in your first post you say it's definitely not user error ;-)

I'll throw in another vote for the Ernie Ball 6180 VP Jr. with a caveat or two... don't neglect the little taper switch it has, play with it, for me one of the settings is nasty, the other is perfect. Use good cables and keep them short (or on the other hand try several lengths - cables affect tone ...
