I certainly have fun, totally improvising on a song with a "new" group. But in bands I play regularly with, I typically work up 2 different psg solos for each song that I solo in. And at the last second, determine which one I'll play, or possibly a combination of the two. Fills, I treat si...

Hi Pat, thank for the reply. I haven't been able to locate the practice demo, and I never used it either. If I should come across it, I'll let you know... But that reminds me, I think I may have some old instructional cassette tapes, I'll have to try to remember where those are stored. :)

Are we sure SHA is not 2 1 5 in the key of C? For the fun of it, why don't we once again go over what key Seminole Wind is in... Em G D A. I remember reading "reasonable" arguments for almost every key in existence on that one... I've probably played SHA close to 1000 times at gigs, and ne...

Brian, To play the chords you mentioned, while staying on the 5th fret: Any string combination (grip) that you currently use for an "A" chord - by engaging the 1st pedal (the one that raises your 5th & 10 strings a whole tone), you will now have an F#m. For the Bm7 - engage both the 1s...

Richard I think it's more of a trick question than a quick question. :)
It seems like you're still in the key of E, because you referred to the A as the 4 chord.
In that case, I think the simplest way is to continue to call the chord Esus4, and indicate an "A" bass note.

I've been reminded by others before that never not everything relates to the sport of bowling, and perhaps I shouldn't always use analogies that involve bowling. I'm now going to ignore those well intended suggestions. Considered the "correct" form just before releasing the bowling ball, i...

I recommend having a small bird, in this case, a gray cheek, on your left hand... I'm not sure if helps with pitch control, but the vibrato is interesting.

Looking at photos from live gigs, I now realize that sometimes there's a fair amount of finger slant, and sometimes pretty flat, or as shown in this case, somewhere in the middle.

Michael, I recommend experimenting with your tuning. Why not try tuning everything straight up to center 440, just like the guitar players you're playing with tune to? And record it too, and listen back, and see how it sounds to you as compared to the recording where you used the "sweetened&quo...

Hi Richard I'm confused - I thought you also play keyboards... That song has cool percussive organ parts throughout it. I have a lot of fun playing parts similar to the recording and also jamming out on as many organ solos as they want to give me. If I didn't have my keyboards with me, I would try t...

You guys may certainly be right regarding Folsom being in F. I admit to not hearing the original in quite a long time, though most bands I've played with have played it in E. The main point I was "trying" to make was in my case playing the 6-string guitar tuned down a half step, the same a...

I recently played in a band for a couple of years that turned down a half-step. And I was the utility player, playing PSG, Keys & occasional 6-String Guitar. This worked best for me - I left the PSG at standard tuning and I turned down my 2 Keyboards & 6-String to match the rest of the band ...

YES - the few times in my life I ever played a different steel, I learned I'm not as comfortable and don't sound as good on those other steels. I also learned that I never want to "try" a new steel if there's anyone else listening, because the impression made will most likely not be a posi...
