I am grateful to you for posting the link. The video is beautiful, really high quality production. The groove of the music, the repoir between the players and the instrumental expertise all stood out. I agree about the thin tone of the Marcio on the recording, but your fine playing overrode the dire...

Dan, Old Eldorado is so fine. I love hearing the high repoire between you two. The harmonics interlude provides a clear counterpoint to the driving rhythm that fills the rest of the piece. It was interesting hearing the offset melody at the end compared with the synchronized melody earlier. Thanks v...

What a dynamic piece of music. Hearing the discreet dialogue between the two unusual instruments is easy with the great recording technique. At about 1:20 the Marcio sings out in a startlingly human voice. The buttery overtones around 1:50 are sweet. The harmonics at 2:39 are welcome. The clean bar ...

Barnes and Mullins hollowneck

I have had access to this early 20th century hollowneck lap slide guitar for over a decade. My friend Miranda Pope owns it but doesn't play slide. It is not as full toned as my Brauchli Blackwood, but the crystalline overtones at harmonic points on the fretboard are deliciously ethereal. Notice the ...

A couple of songs on a Brauchli Blackwood hollowneck

A bare bones performance of my song, Yet to Come, played on a Tasmanian lap steel hollowneck made by Daniel Brauchli. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tecoY_kmu48 A looped version of my song, Bodysurfing. I am using a couple of floor peddles to fill in the sound a little. http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

I play two Brauchli weissenborns (fixed bridge and floating bridge). I run them through a Boss 7 band EQ pedal toning back the 3.2K slider about -3-5db. Brauchli explains on his excellent website: The pickups I use as my standard are a custom made K&K, which has classical width but is balanced f...

Brauchli Hollowneck volume

Daniel Brauchli uses carbon fiber technology in his bracing which gives his hollownecks extra volume. His floating bridge guitars with cedar top are bright and quite loud.

I use a Tribo Tone and I love it. I was used to a contoured bar and had a hard time holding the bullet shape until I devised a stickon solution. I cut a couple 1-2" long pieces of two-sided Scotch Mounting tape. I tapered the pieces to my liking and put them on the bullet bar. Then I took a sma...

I have been reading messages in Steel Without Pedals for a few months and have decided to become a member. I've been playing lap guitar since the mid 70's. About 10 years ago I did some tree climbing work for Paul Chandler and got to choose a new electric steel from a batch of 20 that he and his wif...
