heck your spacing, the Kluson tuners may fit. From my checking, the 3 strip Kluson replacements are on standard spacing.

I've heard Blue wood sounds great too. I just repainted an old Blue Stringmaster neck to Red Wood, hope I have not ruined the tone. In some Fir and Hemlock, theres sometimes is a natural stain on the wood, it's called Blue Stain, although I don't think these kind of woods are used in Steel Guitars. ...

Considering the duplicity of the Chinese Manufacturer's they may have bought some swamp ash, but used other woods they can get locally, to make the rest. Considering the sales price, the markup structure, I would doubt it. Three years ago I attended the NAMM show, saw the prices of various types of ...

Leon said that he'd never heard the Guitar Rag until years after he recorded the Steel Guitar Rag with Bob Wills. I think this is very possible as the tune's really not that complicated and almost intuitive to the Steel Guitar. In the 1930's the only way he would have heard it was by listening to a ...

You might try re-potting it with wax, maybe some windings are loose.

Your right, if you have trouble, it looks like it's in the bottom middle. As long as the windings in the pickup are not broken there ought to be no difference in the sound of the existing compared to a rewind. If the strings are hitting on the bottom, try cutting up one of those binocular hole coffe...

Not really, didn't take that much time, getting the material took the longest, other that about 15 minutes. But, that said. I do have the tools, used a belt sander to remove the side of the tube.

If the strings are hitting the bottom of the tunnel through the pickup then: Go to a hardware or hobby store, find a piece of small copper rectangular tube that's about a 1/4 inch wide across the outside of the flat part. Inside the tube in the opoposite direction it may be a 1/16 +-. Cut the tube o...

I was in on the beginning of it too. At the time, they were only going to get the tuners made, I sent them one side of a pan set in about 2010. Well, at least somebody did something to restore these wonderful beasts! I've got a new Kluson pan and tuner set going into a 22.5" inside neck of a D8...

Find a guy that has a home welding shop, who welds professionally. Buy him a six pack of a bottle of something. It's so small it's not worth billing it'll take ten minutes? An alternate would be to check out you local Tech School, see if you can get the teacher to get one of his prize students to do...

I believe it's 16 guage sheet steel, so, can be TIG welded, but, you'd need a real talented welder and it could warp the piece. If you want to take it off, you could soldier it, the way I see it, you are just trying to stop the string from getting into the crack. Silver soldering would be the best, ...

Stringmaster MK1 Pickups and Parts

Getting back to my 1954 Stringmaster MK1, 26 inch scale project, I find the later MK2 pickups won't fit. The later pickups are wider, which means they also have a wider string spacing. I only have one original pickup, need three more. The later pickups I have, will shift over to in my MK2 Stringmast...

The only way to really see what impedance a speaker is, is to measure it with an ohm meter, check it out you may be surprised. The definition of an "8" ohm speaker speaker a moving target, with DC resistance (DCR)of the voice coil up to interpretation, fudging, to out right lying. A true 8...

3rd Stringmaster neck, used scales

If you can modify something, here's an idea for you. I looked at that one, initially looked nice, it's too long, kind of messy trying to take a chunk out of the middle, but maybe. The Fender bass covers look good too, but again too long. The Mark 1 body is just a touch over 4 1/2 inches wide, there's got to be something out there that can be made to f...

I got some parts from Jimmie, very nicely done and a reasonable price, but, I don't think he makes these parts for the original Stringmaster, which the two-of us have. Compared to the later ones, the parts are really almost impossible to find. I don't think any of the proprietary metal parts of the ...

Mine project is missing both of them. The cover is the same overall width as the outside of the pickup ring, 3 7/8" (98.4mm). The bridge itself is not as wide, about 3". Maybe a cover off a standard guitar might fit, unfortunately, the bass guitar ones are too wide. Not perfect, but might ...

They look very nicely made and sound good. For my take they were inspired by the same period Fenders, have a similar look.

I have noticed that the sales price of these is quite reasonable, something for an classic steel player or beginner to consider.
