David, Super glue is a good idea. It is what I have used many times to fix the very thing you described. Put a few drops between mica and the wood, press and hold down the mica for 30 to 60 seconds(depending on ambient temperature) and you're done. But, have a soft cloth dampened with acetone at the...

I started building for Jimmie in 1996 until his passing. Lloyd had a rosewood mica JCH. Jimmie wanted me to build him a green lacquer guitar. Something special. I had Lloyd send me an autograph done with a sharpie. I inlaid his signature and the JCH logo with ebony and mother of pearl. The rest of t...

Bill Flores, I saw Murph a couple of times with Vassar Clemmetts. He played steel and sax with finger picks. I dont't remember if he kept his thumb pick on or not. It would have been hard to see it behind the sax. Great player and great guy. Also a hot band with Vassar an Murph. Also saw him several...

To my knowledge all builders use contact cement. You can sand by hand or sander. Yes, smoother is better. No clamps needed, although you can use clamps with cauls.(blocks used to distribute clamping pressure) Most folks use a J-roller .available where mica is sold. Thickness affects sound although n...

John, I was trying to say that McGuires works better on mica than Windex IMO. It certainly will clean off fingerprints and smudges from endplates and necks also. As already stated, it's great for polishing lacquer, urethane and most other applied finishes.

Again, Richard and John know their stuff. McGuires is tops and also works beautifully on mica guitars, I think better than Windex.
