Yeah, this is crummy. Doug was much kinder than he every needed to be to me. He was very generous with his time, knowledge and good will. He frequently asked about my young family and reminded me to be a good father to my son. It's been a year or so since I saw him, I kept meaning to drop him a line...

I genarally use (and like) a Nashville 400 but I have an old Traynor Mark III I sometimes schlep around for double duty gigs or just to change things up. It's got a cool tube vibe, lots of headroom and sounds completely different(but also weighs more!) than the NV 400.

Fellow forumite and all around nice fella Doug Aman passed along a practice regime that has served me well. If I have an hour to practice I'll split the time into 15 min chunks. For the first 15 I'll work on picking exercises followed by 15 min of scales - both with the metronome. Following that I'l...

I saw Lanois play at the local folk festival here a few years ago. He was last on the bill for the night and showed up on stage flanked by a couple of Marshall stacks and proceeded to tear it up. Man, you should have seen the exodus of indignant folkies. He alternated between his steel and a Gibson ...

I was just tooling around on this site the other day. I don’t think they make suits anymore.

Nice song, nice rendition. You seem to have a handle on those rolls, I don't see a lot of that going on but they sound really good to my ears.

Pickup signal level

I posted this in the Pedal Steel section but it failed to get a response: Any one know why the output level on my C6 pickup (Sho Bud Proffesional) may have dropped dramatically suddenly? Loose wire? Or, are there larger forces at work trying to spare the audience my playing of the C6 neck? Joking as...

Pickup problem on C6 neck

Any one know why the output level on my C6 pickup (Sho Bud Proffesional) may have dropped dramatically suddenly? Loose wire? Or, are there larger forces at work trying to spare the audience my playing of the C6 neck? Joking aside, over the weekend during a show I lost output on the one neck. If I to...

Definitely check out the new John Doe & the Sadies collaboration ‘Country Club.’ Both Eric Heywood and Bob Egan (of Wilco & Blue Rodeo fame) are credited on the album, although I haven’t figured out who’s playing where. Great Album.

If it's giving the steel guitar a bad name you're worried about...

I would argue that, as a fellow player, offering up vitriol in an effort to humiliate a struggling player instead of advice and encouragement as needed causes more harm. No?
