This is shock! I enjoyed his lessons for a few years. He will be very missed. Glad I got to know him through his lessons. Always enjoyed his 'monologue' at the beginning of the lessons.

I never get tired of listening to this Sneaky Pete solo. The start is out of this world. Too bad its 'hidden' deep in a Zappa album. When Sneaky Pete’s break comes in on Frank Zappa’s “It Just Might Be a One Shot Deal” it is always a sock in the gut for me, as well as a reminder of everythin...

I'll do practice session where I go back and play the project tunes that I have received over the weeks to see how well I do. I'm also surprised that I have not 'regressed' much from the old tunes. William is right in saying just play what you can and move on. I could get bogged down in one area of ...

If you are a beginner this is the one for you, at least so far. The 'Mama Tried' was difficult and the speed beyond my ability. Had to slow down the tracks to keep up. This is a great tune and seems simpler than the others. Join us and work up the Wichita Lineman, you'll be glad you did. Ken "T...

Wiliam Litaker and the PolyCarb Pedal

If you listened closely to this past Saturday's broadcast you may have heard mention that I have Mr. Litaker's PolyCarb pedal and will not give it back. That PolyCarb pedal is making sounds out of my steel that I have never heard before. I'm actually starting to sound like a steel player. I'm learni...

I bought Jim Cohen's C6 Excel and switched it to E9th from C6. I played it as C6th for awhile. I had been playing C6th on a lap steel and wanted more the E9th sound. Still sounds great.

I don't know anything about a 'pop' when tuning. Can you tell where the pop originates? Near the changer, the bell cranks or a rod binding. A 'pop' would seem to indicate something binding and then releasing.

I have had problems with my nylon bushing also, on my Excel. I don't have a supply of them so what I did was get some plastic rods from US Plastics to the correct diameter of the bushing. Well they are not exact because of Metric/English conversion, but pretty close. I then cut a small piece of the ...

How does picking hard fit in with Jerry Byrd, the "Master of Touch and Tone"? Did he pick hard? When I think of touch, that says to me skill in how hard to pick the strings to get the tone desired. Perhaps Mr. Ray Montee can help here. Is the hard picking done do increase sustain and then ...
