Interesting. I will experiment with them.

I'm lazy - I use the E9 offsets pre-programmed into my Peterson VS-II..

I ended up playing for another two hours last night. REALLY like these strings.

I use nickel. Never tried SS on my Carter, but I do prefer a warmer sound, and would imagine the SS's would be brighter?

Customer Service - Live Steel Strings

At the recommendation of many folks here on the SGF, I tried a set of Live Steel strings. IMHO they sound great. I sent in my order, and got an email back with a question about my gauge request (I use a .015 for my 2nd and 4th string)- they wanted to double-check that I really wanted (2) .015's, and...

Didn't Duane Allman play six-string slide in EADGBE? Duane did most of his work in open E. There were several notable exceptions - He was recording "Dreams" in standard tuning, and when it came time for his solo he made a split second decision and reached over and picked up his slide - he...

Add me to the list

I got my very first steel about 3 years ago. When a few weird things began to happen with it (other than the weird noises I was making), I had no idea who to call. I did some online research, I found this guy named Tom Bradshaw, and lo and behold - he lived in the same city as me! I have taken my gu...

Got a few prototypes made. The ones I've tried in lead crystal haven't had "it" yet for me, but the two out of Pyrex seem to have the magic! I'm ordering more crystal. Someone knowledgeable told me you guys used to use Pyrex in the 70's to sound like Duane Allman. http://bb.steelguitarfor...

In my last day job I worked for a company that was very much involved with the audio portion of the American Idol show. Let me start by saying that I am not trying to sound like a "smarty-pants", but as we all know this is live TV, and the sound mixers (even though they get a rehearsal)hav...

Hi Shane, I had the same misfortune when I subbed a wound 6th. FWIW, I really like the Paul Franklin sets that bOb sells. Some of the strings are pretty darn heavy, but I get great tone out of them. I also prefer the nickel wraps - I like the sweeter tone. Of course, your mileage may vary, and objec...

Most of my favourite steelers play with picks, but I dont like the way I sound with fingerpicks.... So for me, I play only with a thumb pick on steel. On banjo I use fingerpicks though.... :? Here is my bands newest video...The steel parts are played on a GFI expo, through a tube preamp and :::: Wi...

Tab for "She Thinks I Still Care"

Hi all,

I've seen some YouTube videos of different versions of this - it seems like it might not be too tough for a beginner/intermediate player like myself to pull this off. It would certainly be a good exercise.

Anyone have a tab for a simple version?

As always, thanks in advance!

I was setting mine up last night, and a guy asked me, "is that one of those pedal lap things?"

All kidding aside, I remember seeing a guy playing steel when I was a kid and being totally fascinated. I guess it hasn't worn off.

Sometimes when I turn on the TV, I see a show that I really don't care for. I just change the channel. Then, next time I see the name of the show on the guide, I remember that I didn't like it, and the plot and the acting is probably still just the way I remembered it.

I couldn't get used to regular picks either. I liked being able to feel where the strings are. I guess personal contact with the strings is a way to say it. I have been using Propics for over a year on my steel and they work out just fine. Just enough metal to get great tone, yet allow me to touch ...

Hey Rick and Randy - what didn't you like about the ProPics?

Just curious.

I am a long time bottleneck player, and use my bare fingers to block. I'd like to try doing that with PSG, but I don't want to lose the attack I get from a fingerpick. I saw these as a possible compromise...

Finger picks - what the heck was that brand?

Hi all,

I saw a post somewhere about a unique fingerpick that has a ridge that circles the outside edge of the finger, leaving the fleshy part of the fingertip exposed in order to facilitate blocking.

I can't find the name of them - anyone? I wanna try some.

Thanks in advance!

My First Session on PSG!

Well, I got a call from a good friend on Friday saying he had a session for me on steel. Imagine my excitement, tempered by the fact that I am a real newbie on steel.
