I am a huge fan of good bass players. I love playing when the bass player is the best musician in the band.

Might want to analyze some of the big band charts of the day and see how they handled the harmony structures of the instruments that were playing parts - Glenn Miller, Dorsey brothers etc. The western swing guys borrowed from the big band genre. Written big band arrangements are pretty easy to come ...

Commitment indeed... there is no magic wand. Don't be afraid to keep it simple. Play the melody on the turn around / kickoff. Maybe split the solos and then twin the last 4 measures. Think in terms of parallel thirds within the key signature as long as you don't go far from the chord in play. Practi...

Now there is a blast from the past. I crossed paths with Billy and worked with him from time to time during the late 60s and early 70s around western Colorado. He was indeed a great player. I lost track of him.

Try the 5 pin to 5 pin standard midi cable. It will plug into the 8 pin female on the Profex. The extra pins in the 8 pin cable are for power and LCD display on the Profex pedal board. The rest of the pins are standard midi data Thanks Ken. As usual, Mr. Fox is on target. I have used a standard 5 p...

Peavey customer service has always exceeded my expectations. They do a great job, from major repairs to something as little as emailing schematics. Only one problem, same as most customer service departments... sometimes it is really hard to understand those Southern accents :-)

I met Bobby when I was a teenager. He was the first real professional musician I ever played with. He was kind to me and I credit his patient mentorship with starting me on the right track to competence and professionalism in the music business. I will always remember him fondly.

Glad to see the folks on the SGF have a sense of humor. Personally, I question whether pedal steel is a dead or dying instrument. The Nashville establishment has become much more diversified in their marketing and production priorities. Much of what was the highest and best in the traditional aspect...

First of all, I would not take a comment on a Youtube video that seriously. Many who comment don't have any idea what they are talking about, and many who are knowledgable do not post. I often ponder the possibility that the only redeeming quality of critics is that they themselves are subject to cr...

Anybody still have SiriusXM?

SiriusXM changed their programming a year or so ago and stopped playing many of the artists lots of us enjoyed. If there is anyone with a subscription, I would like to know if anything has changed since the uproar - if the Country Music programming has gotten any better.

So do some of you just assume that when you get hired to play with a band, you're entitled to an even split? Most of my gigs for the past 20 years, I got hired after I agreed on the pay per gig plus some expense where applicable. Knowing full well the artist was getting a deal at the door plus over...

I wonder what ever happened to Linda Buzzard. Her, husband, Donnie Buzzard was a great steel player as well. I knew her around Denver and used to cross paths out on the road from time to time. I think she played with Helen Long and the Long Shots for a while.
