"Ignorance" or "Dumb=Drunk" I don't mind the ignorant; as they do get to learn from me about the instrument I'm playing. Dumb-Drunk obviously can't learn anything at that point; so I just say: "Are you Drunk?; get away from me". Ricky The "Dumb Drunk" is alon...

Steel player or keyboard?

My wife's friend saw and heard me playing the other day and told my wife that I played keyboard sooo beautifully. My wife told her I was playing a pedal steel guitar and the sweet lady had no idea what a pedal steel guitar is.

Re: Distortion in Amplifiers

I would like to see the day when the lead channel on an amp no longer means distortion. Just my thoughts, no rant, no accusations or disparaging remarks. This is incomplete. It needs for you to finish the thought: "I would like an amp that has a normal channel that sounds normal and a lead cha...

What I remember most about MSA of the 1970's is ihat Reece was almost always accessible and often answered the phone himself. I bought my first MSA D10 in about 1976 or 77 and I was just beginning to play. Reece gave me good advice over the phone and was very nice and patient with me even though l w...

A strange occurrence I have noticed often. I many times find the sound from my guitar doesn't suit me and I reach for the eq. Finally I give up and leave it alone and play. I can go back later and listen to some of the recordings and I think I sound pretty good. I cannot help but wonder, is that me ...

I like the Altec better be it 417 or 418. However, I recently built a 12 inch cabinet and installed a JBL D123 8 ohm and I noticed a very smooth, sensitive response. The lows are clear and lively and the highs smooth. The down side is the 30 watt power handling of the D123. I am using it carefully a...

I don't understand.

I just do not understand. I sprinkled my guitar with rosewood dust, Brazilian dust of course, and put a rattlesnake rattle under the body and nothing happened. I still do not have that Emmons tone. It must be the amp. Maybe a new tone mod circuit.

I had the same problem with my original Pack a Seat. I eventually built my own and used an exercise mat for cushioning material. I used one layer and covered it in leather. Although it is thin, it is very comfortable. Even when seated for long periods. It keeps it's form well. It works for me, howev...

Re: Lightweight enough

Is it possible the major pedal steel manufacturers have taken compact and lightweight too far? I don't see it that way. You want a heavy guitar, buy a heavy guitar. You want a light guitar, buy a light guitar. (They still make both!) Doesn't matter much what brand you pick, they're all pretty good ...

Greg, I agree. My concern is about stability. Also, the threaded socket for the legs. I like my lighter weight psg, and understand that everything comes at a cost or compromise.

Lightweight enough

Is it possible the major pedal steel manufacturers have taken compact and lightweight too far? There is a lot to be said about stability when playing. I have been playing long enough to know better than to hammer knee levers, but with the light weight steels of today it is nearly impossible to not c...

When on I purchased my GFI Ultra a year ago I noticed something similar happening on string one first fret. After a little investigating I found it was because of the short distance to the tuner. I had been used to my old MSA Classic I've had for many years. The old MSA, (I do love it) has a very wi...

Experiment

I purchased a GFI SD10 a year ago and changed the pickup. I found the GFI used no springs or foam for height adjustment. The pickup mounted flat and secure to the wood deck. I have a 1975 MSA D10 I keep set up because of the C6 neck and it has pickups mounted on foam and springs. I decided to fabric...
