Anybody see Letterman's show last night? What in the he@# was that? It looked like a lap steel but to my ears sounded AWFUL! Oh well, I guess everyone has a right to their kind of music.

Dave, I don't know Greg personally, but have heard of him. Here is a link to a local website that shows a Halloween gig with a pic of him at work on the keyboard. http://mysierramountaintimes.com/?p=2862

Which Amp?
Hello all, I double on rhythm guitar (Taylor 310CE) and lap steel (Chandler Studio 6)in an amateur band playing in small venues and jam sessions. At age 69 I'm tired of lugging around two amps. Can anyone recommend an amp that would give reasonable sound for both guitars? I've been considering a Vox...

James, Thank you for the info, I really enjoy your music and the sound of your steels and Vox Valvetronix. I'm thinking of buying the VT30 as it appears to be about the right size/volume for most of the gigs I play and the price looks good too. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about a volume pedal....

Dennis, After a very, very long hiatus from playing lap steel, I bought a Chandler Studio 6 and C6 tuning materials about 5 months ago. I'm very happy with the Chandler guitar but already wish I had bought the 8 string version. Also, I have switched tunings to open E and E7 as I find it better for t...

Peavey KB/A 100
I have a 1997 Peavey KB/A 100 amp that I'm thinking of selling. Any idea what it is worth?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hello Justin and welcome to the forum. My situation is somewhat like yours. I play rhythm guitar and recently bought a 6 string Chandler lap steel. I fooled around with a few tunings and have, for the time being, settled on E7. For starting out it seems quite intuitive. For example, for just chordin...

After a 54 year hiatus, I bought a lap steel and started playing again a few months ago. I first tried C6 but felt it didn't sound right for me, I play mostly old time country. After fooling around with a few tunings I settled on a modified E7 (hi to low E-B-G#-E-B-D). It seemed almost like all the ...

Hi Rich, I too are a relative newby to lap steel. I bought a Chandler 6 string and in retrospect think now I would have preferred an 8 stringer. I thought I wanted to learn C6 tuning but found playing mostly old country stuff that I like E and E7 better. These tunings are also quite intuitive for th...

Hello Ray, Yea, our band, The Leftovers, play all the local rest homes, farmer's markets and private parties, etc. But, we also attend a Friday jam session at our local senior center where everyone is invited to play and sing. I sure agree about the simpler times and also simpler music. I really enj...

Thanks to all for your replies, they really help this old guy re-learn this beautiful instrument. Edward, I couldn't agree with you more about this Chandler Studio 6. I just re-measured from nut to bridge and the ruler says 23 1/2 inches. Sorry for the multiple posts, don't know what happened. Moder...

E6 strings
I'm experimenting with C6, E7 and E6 tunings. I'm finding string sets available for the first two, but what gauge strings would you recommend for E6 on a Chandler Studio 6 lap steel? Also, his guitar measures 23 1/2 from nut to bridge, so is that it's scale?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hello
I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am Paul Kemper, a new member and a relatively new lap steel player. I say relatively new as I am attempting to re-learn this beautiful instrument after a 54 year hiatus. About 1954 I was 14 years old and taking lap steel lessons from Professor Ge...
