FS / T: Wilcox SD10 with case

I hate to do this, but that's life sometimes. I bought a Wilcox pedal steel from Chet about 2 months ago. I figured I would spend time in my basement learning a new instrument, as the PSG has always intrigued me. What I didn't think about so much was that I have 2 young kids running around that don'...

You know, seeing this is an etiquette thread, I have say this. I'm a complete newbie to all things pedal steel. I signed up here on the forum to learn about the instrument and meet people in the 'community' as well. Obviously, to learn how to play, I need an instrument. I've gotten some great advice...

Okay, what would a 'proper' steel pedal be? Where can I find those? Do pedals of that ilk not suffer from the high end loss?

Thanks!

Ernie Ball VP Jr. - tone sucker?

Hi, In anticipation of receiving my first PSG, I picked up a volume pedal on my way home today. I got an Ernie Ball VP Jr. Looks nice, but as a long time 6 string player I never used volume pedals. As I understand it, it's a must have for most steel playing. So, I plugged my guitar into it tonight, ...

Thanks for all the good advice - and I mean all of it. I'll start with more the 'beginner' model for now, but those BJS bars sound awfully nice. Someday.

Meanwhile I can think of how I will explain it to my wife: "How much did that piece of metal cost?"

Tonebar newbie question

Hi, Just bought a pedal steel guitar, hope for it to be here in a few days! In preparation for this, I need to order a tonebar and some picks online. I have the picks all set, the tonebar seems to leave me with questions. I see this model here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ernie-Ball-Steel...

Hi Jeff, there are many steelers here in Minnesota that would help you with your questions. Where are you located? Bill Rudolph, the builder of Williams guitars is located in central Mn. He can also answer any technical questions you may have. Geo Hi George, I've heard of Williams, I think that's i...

Hey Ben,

Yes, I did get Jon's emails. I'm a '.mac' user that is now trying to deal with Apple's new 'mobile me' interface, and I'm finding it rather annoying - some of my emails are being blasted into the ether it seems. I'd reply to him on my iphone, but that would take too long to type. :)

New vs. Used

Hi, I'm in the market to purchase a first pedal steel. I'm after a 'used pro' model, in lieu of a student model. What are your opinions of buying a new (or newer used) model as opposed to buying a vintage model? Keep in mind this is for a beginner - I would much rather spend my time learning how to ...

Wow - just missed this!

I saw this posting on the Minneapolis craigslist: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/724064270.html Guy had it posted for $2000. I emailed wondering if he still had it. He emailed me back, saying he had sold it for $1000. I know I'm a rank beginner just picking up my first guitar, but wow, is tha...

You basically just answered your own question. The is no reason in the world why the Carter won't do what you're looking for. In the long run, if this takes, maybe you get a different steel that has some other features or that has more flexibility to change the setup, etc. But I find it interesting...

I have had no contact with starter guitars, for 30 some years, but here is my question to you. You say your are a guitarist. Would you go out and buy, or recommend a $100 guitar, for yourself, or a friend of yours to learn on? I think I said it all. Go get yourself a steel with minimum 3 foot pedal...

Newbie question... 'starter' advice!

Hi all, I'm a long time guitarist, who's been curious about pedal steel for just as long! I've decided that I'm going to pick one up and start learning how to play. I've seen lots of advice for beginners as far as what models to get. 'Starter' models, or a used 'Pro' model. I'm not made of money (is...
