Re: The Only Steel Player in Space? Blind WJ
Didja know?: A 1927 recording by Blind Willie Johnson of Dark Was the Night, Cold was the Ground was launched into space as part of the Voyager mission. I was talking to someone about this the other day when the song popped up on the playlist we were listening to and was glad to see your post. http...

Goldtone bridge repair, part 2
Well, I managed to get a few months out of my last bridge repair but then the screws holding the bridge started lifting again: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1712/7609_IMG_1673_1.jpg This time I decided to go ahead and drill the holes larger for hardwood dowls: https://bb.steelguitarforum.co...

Ray,
Interesting that you mention the strings not locking into place, as so had the same experience. The underside of the slots did have a lot of burring, but I found this was easily corrected by shaping the slots with a couple of small needle-nose files. You could also use a piece of emery sandpaper

Thanks for the kudos on the repair! I put the screwdriver to it as soon as the guy from Gold Tone tech support suggested it. And yes, the sole of the bridge leveled out quite easily. I'm sure the biggest gain came simply from tightening the screws and dressing the nut, but the rest was easy work. I ...

Investigating the bridge
Investigated the bridge and discovered it was loose: https://youtu.be/flG6SbnROZc One screw didn't tighten firmly, so I decided to have a look underneath: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/7609_FullSizeRender5_1.jpg Wondering WTF was in the holes, I found this: http://bb.steelguitarforum.co...

I don't think it's an improvement - I had to use a pair of needlenose pliers to bend the ball-end and shove it under. The ball-ends are sort of held in place by the what I would describe as jagged, rough millwork in the retainer slots. Overall I’m happy with the lap steel but I noticed a couple of...

Gold Tone LS-6 bridge - is this normal?
Hoping someone can give me a reality check on how the bridge seems to be mounted on the new Gold Tone LS-6 I bought. It looks like the bridge is rolling forwards towards the neck instead of sitting flat against the body. I haven't tried adjusting the two bridge screws but the the bridge doesn't budg...

Hi, Justin, I might be a bit of a trek for you as I teach out of my recording studio south of Athens. I generally play the open E/ D tuning you favor, I find it ideal for blues, rock, americana. I do have a comprehensive course available for that tuning. Top of the page, here. Drop me a note if I c...

Recommendations for lap steel lessons?
Just curious if anyone has a recommendation for pre-recorded lap steel lessons, especially that relate to blues and center on 151351 tunings like open-D or E. I've seen a few people offering lessons online and have also seen a few DVD offerings from Bob Brozman. Thought I would ask to see if anyone ...

Interesting lap steel for the price?
Passing by this interesting find while driving through Tennessee: "CUSTOM LAP STEEL GUITAR, 10 STRING, COULD BE SET UP AS 12 STRING, GROVER KEYS, GEORGE L PICKUP, ALUMINUM NECK $275" http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/7609_IMG_7086_1.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/7...

Your intuition is uncanny, as I've wondered the same. I've owned a dual professional, and although it was a fine instrument, it required an investment of time and space to set up for gigs in which my primary role was rhythm guitar with occasional features on slide tunes. A single neck lap steel does...

Since it was mentioned that something may look off about this guitar I figured I'd post the rest of the photos I've seen of it. Aside from the fact that it appears to have been stripped of the original finish, I'd be curious to know what you guys notice about it. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userp...

Gorgeous lap steel, by the way!
Incidentally, I'm playing a well-worn Rogue squareneck hat I picked up a few months ago, and think the Gretsch may be an improvement over it, let alone a Scheerhorn 😆

I'm in complete agreement with you, Howard. I was just thinking out loud as I tried to understand WHY resonator amplification is complex. In the end, the solution I imagined was needlessly complex compared to the systems I believe you're referring to. I ended up at the same place you were trying to ...
