Guys, Weldon tunes his 2nd string to C# and raises it twice. He told me that he and Hal Rugg started doing that because the early changers would raise and return better than they lowered and returned. The trick I think to copying steel on a lead guitar is to not bend. If you listen to steel players, they are not pushing those pedals slowly most of the time, but usually pretty quickly... remember- the whole time the note is being bent it is out of tune.
