Chart
Since it was requested, I have uploaded the chart I am referring to. It is basic information but I think I have organized it in a way that will help us beginners.

I guess I understand, actually. Nationalism and religion can cause an immediate negative reaction to me when mixed with music. Haven't been able to dig most gospel, modern country or sacred steel for this reason. I'm not into drugs at all, but I don't mind the sound or the references when I hear th...

My first epiphany was realizing how I could organize the fretboard in terms of the pedals up and pedals down position. I learned that from a youtube video. I drew up a great chart which shows where the I IV and V chord is for 4 different pedal combinations (none, AB, LKL, LKR+RKL), and where the II ...

The very small screw in the lever itself controls how far back the lever goes when extended (the levers are designed to fold back under the guitar - that screw just adjusts how much they extend). The forward/back slack actually comes from the pivot, but I can't tighten it anymore because it would ma...

Reducing knee lever slack on GFI Ultra
OK quick question. I have only ever played one pedal steel, which is my GFI Ultra s-10. It works fine as far as I can tell, staying in tune and all that. The one complaint I have about it is the 'slack' in the knee levers. What I mean by this is that all the levers are 'loose', moving both sideways ...

Well if anyone finds it reassuring, I'm 25, and I got a PSG because I have always thought it was the most beautiful sounding instrument in the world. I agree with the negative sentiment towards mainstream country music, but most criticism of this music applies to all other commercial music. Look at ...

Just bought my first pedal steel! Now I have some questions.
Whenever I want to buy something frivolous, I try to wait a few months and see if I still want it. Most of the time I don't. However, this time I did. I am now the owner of a GFI Ultra S10 pedal steel. A few questions - 1. Did I get a good deal? I paid 1350 for this instrument. Ordinary e9th 3/4 set...

First of all, thanks for all of the responses, including those emailed. It am amazed at everyone's helpfulness. I have decided that given the fact that as a non-player, I have no idea what I want or need, I will go with the carter starter and some lifts. That way, if I decide I still like playing, I...

Smaller manufacturers vs. the more well known
Hi everyone. I've been reading the forum a lot recently since I have decided to get into pedal steel. I've decided that I want to buy an s10 of some sort, with 3 pedals and at least 4 KLs. I have no idea what the differences between different builders are, and what the advantages and disadvantages o...
