This is Pete Drake playing pedal steel on this song. From George Harrison’s album All Things Must Pass. Side note: It was during the All Things Must Pass sessions where Pete Drake introduced Peter Frampton to the talkbox. Another little side note: A while back, there was a topic on this forum wher...

Interesting Gadget ! But for $300 you can buy a Zoom R8 ! Anyway, many here still only record one track at a time even with the most powerful DAW ! The DAW is still just a tool, use it in it's most simplistic mode, or not ! There are no rules. It's a means to an end. The premise that we only need a...

Here’s something that looks interesting to me. If you’re only planning to record one or two tracks at a time, this might work for you. You can always export your tracks to a DAW for editting later if you need to. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pYnWNp2PRK8 https://www.zzounds.com/item--IZOSPIRESTU...

Re: Jam to follow

It is written! Doug Jones will be dropping by with his brown Emmons to jam...and rumor has it Bob Muller will be showing up. Hi Gary! Any idea what time Mr. Muller is going to be there? I’m going out of town this weekend, but I’m going to try and get back in time to go to this. It’d great to ...

Brian Wilson used a Sparklets water jug for the song Caroline No.
IIRC, Marshall Crenshaw put a pop filter on a mic and tapped it with a ball point pen to emulate a kick drum.

Re: Everyone and His Dog

Today, music studio software is so easily available that everyone and his dog is recording music. And there's the problem. How do you keep a dog quiet when every time you start recording she starts barking? :\ https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1712/5608_SAM30989_1.jpg Yes, that means you. Don'...

Never heard this before, and I am just laughing because the Frankenstein band of 1972 sounds like country radio wants to be today. Mr. Derringer’s steel is pretty good on it. This song is from the same album that Frankenstein is on. :-) A while ago, I sent Mr. Derringer an e-mail to ask what type...

Another question: I have a Zoom R16 I can record with. Would it work to record the guitar straight into the R16 (or a line out from an amp), then use the amp syms afterwards? Yes. You can record a direct guitar signal with the Zoom R16, then transfer to your DAW and add an amp modelling software li...

I have used Guitar Rig, Re-Valver and Boogex (Free) They all can deliver nice tone. Most of the presets are crap, but there are some very nice clean "tubey" sounding ones. I find something close to what I need and adjust it to my liking. Rick - You need to use the MixControl feature. It r...

Studio One has a zero latency feature and I’m pretty sure that Logic does too.
I’ve noticed that using the Studio One zero latency feature really makes my computer’s processor work really hard though (late 2012 Mac Mini with Focusrite Saffire interface).

The mic I bought is an MXL R40, I guess one of these days I'll see what it can offer. I think it was $50 on an MF blowout. I have a few different preamps including a Behringer ultra gain which I also got on blowout and still have not used. I guess I should stop buying stuff on blowout

Re: Ribbon mic to record Dobro

I have an MXL R144 Ribbon mic (bought on a M/F sale) and tried it. I've used the Ribbon as an "overhead" for drums and it did good. I tried it with my Regal Dobro and what was recorded was exactly what I hear from the Dobro! Those are extremely affordable mics! What the heck...I just orde...

Don’t make the acoustics in your room too dead. Bass traps should used. In my studio, I have some Auralex panels behind my reference monitors as well as on each sidewall, placed just about the same height where my ears are when I’m sitting in front of my monitors. The rest of my room is “liveâ...

It’s very user friendly.

It’s the DAW that I wind up using the most.

Also, you might give Reaper a try too. It might not be the most user friendly DAW, but that’s probably because it’s at least one of the most customizable DAW’s available. You can set it up pretty much the way you like it. The 60 day trial is free. The trial version is a full featured DAW. Not ...
