Kiesel Bakelite Lap Steel 1947? $300
Old Kiesel bakelite steel, appears all-original, tuners may or may not have been changed. Not sure if it works or not. The cord looks frayed at the controls, & old plug is too fat to plug into a modern amp. Cord needs to replaced entirely with a new cord and plug, or a 1/4" jack installed i...

Pot problem
Make sure to solder all connections. And use the same wire, one piece like Dave said. If you just twist it on there, a few bumps later it will be giving you trouble.

Aaron is a good guy, and a straight shooter. He may be new here, but he is a man of his word. He will deliver the goods. I just bought a steel from him, and he is reliable. Thanks Aaron. It's people like you that make this forum a good place.

Hi Todd, hope you are well. Bill, and all who are wondering, I used to own this steel, and sold it to Todd. And it sounds like a bakelite, but with more clarity on the high end, and fat lows. The pick-ups are about a dead match in tone and volume too. And it is loud as hell. It is one of the best so...

David, send me an E-mail with your address. I will send you a couple of bullet bars, and an old Shubb SP-2 bar. They are old and kinda beat up, but you won't have to waste a bunch of money trying out a bunch of stuff. Merry Christmas.

You are not the only one. Dropping the bar is part of learning steel guitar. Make sure your hands are not oily, greasy, or slippery. Soap(as mentioned), lotion, lotion treated tissues, food, oil, grease, oily skin, etc. can cause this. If you need to wash your hands before you play, PLAIN dish soap ...

Fantastic score at a great price. You did win the lottery. The tone lottery. Those things sound like a million bucks.

... it's not microphonics ...
Thanks, Rick. Much appeciated. I was thinking that "Nature of the Beast" might have been a factor. Thanks for confirming it, before I ripped apart my steel. I'll have to try your rubber mounting trick.

microphonic
Jason, have you wax-potted Fender trapezoid pickups, and have it fix the problem? I would hate to go through all that trouble, just to have it not work. The factory pickup is equally as microphonic as the one I re-wound, which I did a half-ass wax-pot job on, and wrapped with electrical tape.

expression pot
I never thought about that. Pretty neat idea. One day, I want to build a steel with a bunch of onboard effects. And an expression knob would be great.
