brain... hurting...... I've always had enough trouble figuring out where to tune my B strings (major 3rds) on the Dobro, and where to find in tune notes along the fretboard (seems like major 3rds and major 6ths generally sound better barred behind the fret). Pedal steel tuning seems like it could ma...

I wound up finding a sweet Carter S-10 on a single frame, and thanks everyone for contributing to this post--really helped me decide. Since the S-10 is comfortable for me picking-wise, I figured I'd stick with it. And I got a nice Nashville 112 on the forum to play it through As for the possible ton...

Please close. I lucked out and just arranged to buy a beautiful Carter S-10 from Dave O'Brien. What a great guy--he even played it for me over the phone and he's setting up the levers to my liking, too. Can't wait!

Having researched a little more, I think I'm going to narrow it down to an S-10 mica guitar, single frame, made in the last decade or so.... I'm thinking a new GFI Expo might not be a bad idea, too.

wow, thanks for being so helpful everyone--all together, you pretty much talked through everything I could ever want to know. For me, I like the feel of the pedals and levers with a single frame, and it sounds like I'm not missing out on anything totally essential by not having a pad, though I can s...

thanks guys! hey, can I ask, what do you actually do with the pad--like, are your arms actually resting on it sometimes while playing? Or does having a double-frame give you more stability? I seriously have no idea what it's for : ) Thanks!

Pad or No Pad?

Hi there, Just getting into shopping for a pro quality steel (have a Carter Starter right now). I was wondering, what's the advantage of having a pad? I've never been able to try one with a pad (not a lot of steel guitars where I live), and I guess I actually worry that it could get in the way--not ...

WTB S-10, Please close -- found one!

Looking for a pro quality S-10 on a single frame (i.e. no pad or half-pad), GFI Ultra or Expo or Carter would be great, though I'm not especially keen on keyless models. Price range between $1250 and $1600 depending on the instrument. I'm going for good mechanics, great tone, and light weight--looks...
