Thanks Mitch for the information. That old pedal steel sound just does it for me. I like that era of songs and style on the pedal steel. Jerry, I have only heard a live version before on you tube and listened to it again today. The pedal steel on this live is great stuff. I would like the record to l...

Pedal Steel on Marty Robbins song?

Do any of you fine folks know the make of the pedal steel on Marty Robbins original recording of "I'll Step Aside"? And who was playing PSG on this song if you know? I heard it on you tube but don't know about posting a link to it. I figured if anybody would know, some of you would just fr...

That's tough and I feel for you. My two dogs are as loyal as any buddy could be. They just want to love and be loved while they are here on earth. Just like us. I'm thinking of you during this time of the loss of your pal.

I sent Hank Locklin an e-mail message about 5 years ago telling him what a huge fan my older brother was of his music and how he would sit with his ear to the radio and listen to his songs, etc. Hank wrote back, "I'd love to talk to that fan of mine, your brother, by phone". Give me his nu...

Is this the same fine singer that was on "Pollyanna"? If so he was one of the greats. I think I remembered but I was pretty young when their version was on the radio.

What makes most of the older instruments like this worth more than one new? My Aunt has a 1962 Stratocaster and it seems to go up in value every year. A much newer natural ash Strat like hers is much, much cheaper.

I clicked on several "0" feedback bidders usernames and although I don't see the message about member-specific information I do see that the 2 bidders that outbid me in the last week were new members. Both had only been members for 2 days and had feedback scores of 0. I have seen that ALOT...

I'll do that Bill. That makes sense. It just seemed some funny business was going on but maybe there are alot more newbies bidding than I used to see. I still like buying the "regular way" better. Face to face if at all possible.

When bidding on e-bay what's up with this?

Five or six years ago I was bidding on quite a bit of music related items on e-bay and it always went smooth. In anticipation of my first pedal steel purchase I'm visiting e-bay again and have placed bids on a number of items. (Some bids have been on piano and guitar related items also along with re...

Thanks David.
I remember hearing that song for the first time when I was probably still in elementary school and it struck me as such a wonderful and awesome sound. It stuck with me and THAT sound of the early pedal steel is still my favorite although I love all pedal steel music.

The pedal steel on "Honkytonk Girl".

How did Speedy West get such an awesome sound from the pedal steel on Loretta Lynn's original version of "Honky Tonk Girl"? I just listened to it again and you don't hear that sound today on recordings. I hear pedal steel sounds every day on newer recordings but not THAT sound. Is it the a...

I made Saturday evening to mainly see Gene Fields and his GFI's. I am in the market for a new pedal steel which will be my first. If I have met a nicer guy than Gene Fields I can't remember when. He made this rookie feel welcome and so much so that I will soon be a GFI owner. I loved the ULTRA and E...

You can get to Cavenders and Boot Town which is right next door in about 20 minutes I would think. Both are off 635 on the north side a mile or so east of I-35.
As driving distances and times goes in the Metroplex that isn't far at all from DFW airport.

It's troubling when a person has such a passion for something like a steel guitar or any instrument for that matter and the builder, whoever it may be, gets nasty acting in any way over a question, problem or for an inquiry of parts. There is never an excuse for a bad attitude directed toward a call...

Why has the pedal steel been such a force in country music and what made so many on this forum gravitate toward the pedal steel? I suspect it was because of music just like this version of "Cold, Cold Heart".
This is the real deal. Thanks David.
