This is very sad. His was a vital and, yes, you could say a beautiful presence in the midst of this good forum. He was, clearly, a fine man. My thoughts are with his family.

Thanks for the link, Ross. Hi,Ron.

Interesting project. No surprise that they sell so quickly. I'd like to hear more sound clips- particularly of a few different lap steels. No doubt that'll come with time, especially in view of the shipping refund offer. But great stuff!

Any modern-day amp to rival the old Valcos for lap steel?

Following on from Ron's question about the Swart amps: ARE there any new amps that are as compatible with a vintage lap steel as the old Valco-mades are said to be?

If I remember correctly, the UK practice is to only credit the payee's account when the cheque has actually reached its bank of origin, and the matter is beyond dispute. I'm not an expert in these matters but it is my understanding that this is the case. However, I believe that it is not unheard of...

Heads up, for Brits at least: History of the Guitar : UKTV.

This evening at 10.20 GMT on BBC1 TV. Alan Yentob on the History of the Guitar. Seems to be the second of three programmes. It's entitled "Out of the Frying Pan" and concerns the early evolution of the electric guitar. (Warns of strong language....???)

The Book.

Good to hear the enthusiasm about this book by Mr. Volk. I think I'd probably like to buy one, but what book IS it! I Amazoned "Andy Volk" and got "African Folk Tales" and a little number entitled "The Folk of the Faraway Tree" by Enid Blyton. I'm guessing it's neither ...

Good Value Silvertone on eBay?

eBay Item No. 230282508102. Looks clean. BIN $350 seems not bad, especially for a stateside buyer. Whatjathink? This is meant to be a heads-up; I've already got one. (No connection with vendor.)

Hi George, I've no doubt Michael's right. Incidentally, it's very like a Jedson I had. They, too, were made in Japan and exported to the USA- and to Europe, I believe. I seem to remember somebody saying they were sold in Woolworths among other places! Can that be? Anyway there seems to have been a s...

Hi Robbie, Fred's dead right. I got a MINT 1962 National with Aiello-ised magnets for a total cost of just under £300 from an American gentleman on this forum. From eBay I got an as-new West Coast 8-string Hawaiian for about £200 (new cost all-in about £600)That was from Canada. You can, fairly easi...
