I'm in a newish country band. Many times I sustain chords with lots of distortion or overdrive (I have a Seymour Duncan Twin Tube). For fills I do a lot of slide guitar riffs. I spend a lot of time in 2 minor pentatonic pockets: In A minor I'm at the 8th fret, A pedal down, or 3rd fret, A and B peda...

I've used one and did not care for it. I have an older American made one and had it serviced, retubed, and a Weber California put in. It's great for guitar now, but my GFI Ultra just doesn't get along with it, whatever I do. I think it's because of the high output of the pickup. However, it's perfec...

Choose a style and stick with it. That way you'll be able to play the thing. Try another style but be aware it will be different and therefore difficult, like starting from scratch. You can wait years like Richard or decades like Paul before you try a different style. No doubt eventually you'll try ...

It sounds like you've been pick blocking and then tried palm blocking, the technique Jeff Newman taught so well. I think players use one style or another, not both. Both are skills that take years to perfect. I'd choose one and stick with it.

I agree the steel is the frosting on the cake, and it's senseless to go to practice when you can get your parts at home. I tell bandmates that's how I work, it's my approach to learning tunes. So it's never personal, just my way of doing it. As long as I deliver at the gig, there's no problem. You a...

Sid, I meant raise it more to compensate for the extra time and work in addition to the $3 for the treatment. Premium strings carry a premium price, nothing wrong with that. I really like those strings!

So raise the price a little. They'll still be cheaper than several sets of untreated strings.

I've had Sid's Cryo strings on for about a month now. I practice every day, rehearse once a week, gig every weekend and have been tracking in the studio a little. These strings are AWESOME. They don't quit. They stay in tune, sustain, and stay nice and shiny. Cryo strings are for real and I hope the...

Larry- it's not so much rod rattle I'm trying to eliminate. More like vibrations from the strings causing other things to vibrate underneath. The overall effect can cause annoying beats when amplified. Just thought I'd give it a try and isolate as much as I can.

I experimented with different signal paths on my NV 112, and found that putting effects and volume pedal in line on the pre EQ loop sounded best. I also run the steel output into the high gain amp input. Your setup is exactly right, but since all effects and vol. pedals have their own characteristic...

I play in Eb. The most you'll need is a few twists and tweaks of the tuners. I have found that heavier strings compensate for the slight decrease in tension. You may find without heavier strings, the action gets mushy and there's a lack of sustain. If the band is in Eb, you def. want to detune.
