Thanks for all the comments...I tested all of them...other locations, different amps, locations, everything I could think of and still get a bit of buzz. It's true about the reverb in the Nashville 112. Even more pronounced since I put the Burr Brown op amps in. Better tone...but noisier. Not sure h...

Pickup noise...buzz...is this common to all Pedal Steels?
Hey all, I'm new to pedal stell and after I did some recording direct the other night, I went back to audition the take, I heard what seems like pickup buzz...like you would with a single coil pup. What was odd was that my Goodrich volume pedal (L10K) seem to amplify the buzz cause when I went to an...

MSA D-10 Classic 8x5/ Signed by Bud Carter
1976 MSA D-10 Classic 8x5. Signed by Bud Carter. Got this great guitar from a forum mate, an MSA Aficionado. It was set up before I got it by Danny Hullien and then I took it to Jim Palenscar here in Southern California for a great tune-up. It plays and sounds great, new strings, everything works ni...

WTB - Jeffran College DVDs + other Instructional Aids
Hello all,
I'm a beginner looking to buy used DVD/CD pedal steel instructional course for E9th and C6th tunings.
I'd prefer Jeff Newman stuff if you got it.
Thanks.
Brian

Favorite Replacement PickUp
I'm looking for the best replacement pup for my 1976 MSA D-10. I'm new so don't know about sizes, restrictions, choices or places to buy. I have a Bill Lawrence pup in the C6 neck that I love but don't like the one in the E9 (just got the steel yesterday). So am looking for a great pup replacement. ...

Thanks, Jim. I have been to Jim Palenscar's shop and in fact took my first two lessons with him. He didn't have a Mullen or Fessenden but he did rebuild my MSA. He's a fine gent. I have a chance to by a nice Fessy from a board member but having not heard one, I'm trying to get some perspective. Is $...

Fessenden or Mullen or MSA?
I'm in the market for a D-10 and because I don't have any stores around me with many of these guitars, can any one tell me the tone differences. I own an MSA, like the tone but it's awfully heavy but love the sound of Mickey Adams G2 Mullen on You Tube (but its more than I can afford right now) but ...

I'm like you and just started a few months ago. I tried a bunch of different kinds but like the BJS bars the best. Before you panic about the price, it has a functional advantage cause of it's weight, balance, and great tone. I know its a preference thing but I posted the same question when I starte...

Thanks for the input - Bob...you can close this
Sorry...Richard for bringing it up again. :) Then it begs the question, why are certain PSG so coveted? And why hasn't others 'knocked them off'? like Telecasters made by 30 manufacturers that look and sound very similar? And why are newer ones so expensive...? Makes sense that since they are millin...

Lot's have been written recently on this subject. Check out the recent Guitar Player magazine Shootout...they compared 40 cables. I like the new Elixir cables since they have the lowest capacitance of any cable. But remember, if you use anything active in your signal chain, capacitance doesn't matte...

Thanks guys.... Indeed beauty and value is in eye of the beholder. It would be nice however to be able to anticipate what characteristics are in the componentry so that you could experiment with parts so to not have to make a $2500 mistake. Unlike going to your local Guitar Center and being able to ...

Steel TONE. Is it from pickups or wood or?
I'm new to pedal steel and was wondering how the different steels get such unique and consistent tones per builder. I play guitar and understand that wood and pickups have a huge impact but it seems like a steel guitar has so 'few' points in which it is contacting any wood (like on an acoustic) than...

Looking for my first Double Neck or another Single?
Okay...so I'm new to pedal steel but totally enjoying it with an old MSA SD-10 I got from a forum member. I'm thinking about getting a double neck to play C6 but don't have a ton of money. Do you think I should get a double or get another single and tune it to C6? My SD is SO HEAVY, so I'm wondering...
