Thanks everyone! I'll be checking in with Jason ASAP! Also, Denny... That page you linked is just great. I was trying to find a wiring diagram for these things (I'm a beginner steel player, long-time guitarist, otherwise) to verify the wiring was correct. You rock!!

Supro Replacement Pickups

Hi folks... I know that Rick Aiello creates some great new magnets for Supro lap pickups, but I think I have a problem with the entire assembly - basically, I get okay sound out of strings 4, 5 and 6, but almost no output from strings 1, 2 and 3. I've already purchased upgraded magnets from Rick and...

OK Bruce, but you say likely reasoning, isn't the most direct route the most obvious ? So why was his reasoning obtuse ? I don't want to argue with ya, basil. Have you ever heard the saying "there's two sides to every story"? That's all I was pointing out - another explanation that needn'...

Bruce, I won't rise to the bait I'm not trying to bait you, basil. Seriously. I was just trying to point out the likely reasoning of Roman, nothing more. This thread had turned combative and I hate seeing that happen here. I was trying to defuse the situation, not throw more fuel on the fire. If my...

(and I thought that's where you got your picture from!) Roman, I've just proved beyond doubt where I saw and bought the ASSEMBLY from, and also the omission of the full description YOU found elsewhere. We should just leave it, EXCEPT I don't appreciate my word being doubted, It casts a slur upon my...

I was all set to put it on a lap steel, but in retrospect, with the downward pressure that has to be applied, unless you have a firm base the instrument could move. Alan, have you watched the videos where Martin Huch is playing a Strat as a lap steel - retrofitted with a raised nut and 3 Multibende...

Bill, the Stew Mac calculator is what I've been using. http://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator/ Its very handy and user friendly. For me, I like to convert my scale length to millimeter and work off the metric, it just seems easier to read for me. Also, take all measurements from the nut. The fret to...

Wow, nice finish work on those top carved plates, Tom. Now that you mention it, I do have another question for you. Where do you purchase your tonewoods? I think I'm going to end up using www.rockler.com, but I'd be interested any other suggestions you may have.

Good Lord, Tom, that's some beautiful work. I especially love your most recent 'board there with the aluminum inlays. I'm just blown away by your handiwork. Amazing! And thanks a million for the tip on the engraving plates! That sounds like a easy way to go for a beginner to home-made stuff like me....

Basil, Bruce's work is certainly beautiful, but a little too ornate for my needs. Thanks!!

Lap steel fretboards?

Does anyone know of a supplier/manufacturer of pre-made lap steel fretboards? I'm thinking about building my own 8-string steel and I know I've seen home-made guitars with interesting fretboards out there so it stands to reason there's a supplier. I've searched online, but apparently my Google-fu is...

James, How do you use the Live? Do you have it in front of a tube amp or a solid state amp? Are you using it for regular guitar or lap/pedal? I've been considering getting rid of my Vetta II combo and getting a Live to put in front of a small tube amp that I fell in love with, but I'm worried...

Teachers in Boston?

I notice there are bunch of people from the New England area posting here and I'm looking for a teacher. I'm a total beginner on the steel and have logged only about 4 hours or so on my Supro since its arrival on Monday afternoon. My intonation and vibrato are horrendous and, while I realize I'm jus...

Re: Letterman this Wed. 6/26

I’ll be on the Late Night with David Letterman this Wednesday June 27 with Ryan Adams and the Cardinals playing my Sho-Bud Pro l. I recently did a total rebuild of it with John Coop’s fantastic parts. There are still a few ergonomic adjustments I still need to make, but oh! What a difference! Thank...

Running that little amp through the house sound system will prolly negate all its high-priced "boutique sound" anyway. It sounds like you may not have a ton of engineering experience in live sound reinforcement, Dave. Even the most ham-handed tech can reproduce a the personality of an amp...
