Anybody here currently use a reentrant tuning? I do. Reece Anderson tuning on lap, haven't played it in a long time, so my memory might fail me. I think I lost the lowest string in favor of a b7. And on 8-string acoustic low to high: g-b-d-e-g-b-d-a. The basic idea is to accommodate a dobro player ...

Out of nowhere

It's been quite sometime that I posted ANYTHING here, but I suspect some overlap between all the sites anyway. Here goes: https://www.resohangout.com/myhangout/videos.asp?m=d&catID=&id=12183 I bought this lovely 8-string guitar recently built by Mr. Jack Stepick. The tuning is a bastard chil...

is what straight bar chord positions are available to use when playing a Dominant 7 chord
the short answer: none.

the slightly longer answer: tunes like "Walkin' After Midnight" illustrate nicely how to suggest dom7 chords.

Also practically every single Hank Williams recording.

Maybe you'll be surprised to hear that LA offers actually not that many choices for these kind of instruments. You might want to check out "McCabe's" in Santa Monica. Maybe "The Fretted Frog" in Pasadena. If you have the time: go to Oceanside to see Jim Palenscar's "Steel Gu...

1st inversion - root as the melody note
2nd inversion - 3/b3 as melody note
This is just plain wrong.

C, G, Bb, E is a voicing and not an inversion as the root is still in the bass. Yes, this is how it is typically called. The above is a C7 chord in root position. Nothing inverted there. e.g. on guitar: B(6th string) - G (4th) - D(3rd) - G(2nd) is a first inversion G triad. or: Bb (6th string) - G(...

just to clarify the terminology: - an inversion is a chord where the bass note is NOT the root of the chord. e.g.: for C7: C - E - G - Bb first inversion: C (the root) over E (third in bass) second inversion C over G (fifth in bass) third inversion C over Bb (seventh in bass) - normally inversions a...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b5twrfyAj8 I can't believe I'm even replying to that kind of silliness. To be trivializing every other musician's effort, just like that, feels a bit, uhm, self-indulgent. [...] there is a multitude of worlds out there with differing definitions of complexity. Still...

I get it what you're saying: I much more like playing bluegrass than listening to it.
