When I played steel for Wynn Stewart in the mid 60's, Junior Knight was our bass player. He and I used to switch off as part of the show. When Junior lost his father and returned to Texas, we couldn't find a decent bass replacement so I went on bass and Mr Ralph Mooney came on board on the steel unt...

The Elvin Bishop version was a stratacaster played with a volume pedal. I played steel on the T.G. Sheppard recording, and it was hard to duplicate the effect because of the difference in timber.

I played steel for Wynn in '68 and '69. Junior Knight played bass, and he and I would switch out for a few tunes each show. Some fun. When Junior's Father passed away, he had to go home to take care of family business and we couldn't find a quick replacement so I went on bass and Ralph Mooney came o...

I had the great pleasure of playing twin steels along with Bob White on Hank's 1000 and one-nighters album in the early '80's. I also was fortunate enough to do several shows with him as well. What a Gentleman!!

I don't play a song the same way every time , unless I recorded it that way, and I never said I don't know or understabd the various scales, I just said if you practice and learn only scales, that's all you know, you still don't know any music. I just learned music by feel and figured out the unders...

I've never played a scale in my life...I learned by playing the songs, if you learn to play the songs you will already know the scales, so why waste the time. As a result I have been fortunate to play and record with with many of the 'greats' in our industry

I've had the previlege of knowing 'Pappy' Blythe and spending numerous hours 'jamming' with him. In 1964 and 1965 Roger was playing at a club in Carlsbad, N.Mex. called the "Downtowner". I had a band at the 'other' club in town, the "Melody Club". Roger was playing with some othe...
