I vote for Mark O'Connor. His primary instrument, of course, is the fiddle/violin, but he also plays mandolin and guitar. He is a composer as well as a musician. He can adapt to many styles of music, like New Age, classical, country or bluegrass. His services as a studio musician were in high demand...

So was it Bouton who played on Ricky Skaggs' recording of Highway 40 Blues??

That is one of my all time favorite songs with great steel in it. It's such a joy to listen to. One of the best country singles ever IMO.

Howard,
I DO have Cen-Tex Serenade.
My two favorites are "Forever In the Texas Sky" (awesome tribute.... brought tears to my eyes).. and "Brother It's All Lunchmeat To Me" (I couldn't quit laughing...)

Another solid effort from the CHB.

If you're looking for "real" country music you don't need to look any further than Dale Watson (particularly anything he recorded that has Ricky Davis on steel). And one listen to "Country My @$$" and you'll know where he stands on the issue. Good stuff coming out of Texas: The C...

this is out of left field.... Jeff "Skunk" Baxter's steel on "Pearl of the Quarter" by Steely Dan. The steel is up front and quite noticeable in this song. I can't remember who played it, but I also love the steel on Terri Clark's debut hit "Better Things To Do". I have...

The Busgal gave me a copy of this fine CD as a gift and I love it, especially "South First Street Rag" (I can listen to that track over and over and over again). If you love real country music you must have this CD. It's the epitome of what's going on in the Texas music scene and what good...

that irritated me too, as the Elton John original had B. J. Cole's pedal steel UP FRONT in the mix for all the world to hear. I think it is a song that, in the right hands, could legimately be a good country song. However, given the Nashvegas mentality, that just wasn't going to happen. I am sure El...

No, the Millers DIDN'T write "I Hope You Dance". If memory serves me correctly it was written by TIA SILLERS AND MARK SELBY.

but "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" IS INDEED one of the Miller tunes.

Buddy and Julie are good songwriters as well. Lee Ann Womack is VERY fond of their songs and has recorded several of them. She did "Don't Tell Me" on SOME THINGS I KNOW, and the Millers sang backing vocals on it. It's one of my favorite love songs and favorite LAW performances. Check it out.

The guy can sing. No doubt about that. If you're looking for more, check out the CORNELL HURD BAND CD "A Stagecoach Named Desire"... Justin sings lead on the track "Genitalia of A Fool". It is one of the funniest songs I've ever heard... and Trevino sings it with such sincerity. ...

Braddock is an established songwriter and should be able to sing what he wants to sing. Besides, who knows...... maybe if he sings that "me me me" song.... he could do it in a way that's different from Toby's egofied version...... but since it IS the Opry.... maybe he should sing some clas...

SORRY.. but I thought Conlee's version of Amazing Grace was the worst I've ever heard to date. Too Slow.. and his phrasing was awful.

TWO enthusiastic thumbs down.

I thought the best performance of the show was "I've Always Been Crazy", espeically the solos at the end... The fiddle was great and so was the steel (I had to back up the tape and listen to it again).... and that Travis Tritt is a pretty good guitar picker himself.

UGH. I detest George W. Bush. I look into his eyes and I see evil. He wanted to be king so badly and now he IS the King.

However, he does have one redeeming quality.... he likes DALE WATSON.... so he isn't 100 percent bad!!! Hee hee.

Watson is the REAL DEAL. Yee Haw!!

My favorite Trisha Yearwood recording is "The Song Remembers When" which I think is a well-written song. On Yearwood's latest CD, "Inside Out" there is a great Harlan Howard co-penned tune called "Melancholy Blue"... it's a real tear-jerker. "I Don't Paint Myself I...

My pick would be "Look At Us" by VINCE GILL. The lyrics are very romantic, a well-written song by two great songwriters. Andrea Zonn plays fiddle and provides great harmonies. But the frosting on the cake is the great STEEL throughout, courtesy of the great JOHN HUGHEY. I think it's one of...

Busgal is on vacation in that hotbed of musical activity known as AUSTIN, TEXAS.

It's practically her second home I think.

I am sure the Opry TV updates will return to the SGF once she gets back home!!
