Rick Price: Emmons push/pull surgeon

I just wanted to give some recognition my buddy Rick Price for dialing my guitars in so spectacularly. I realize that there are several highly skilled and qualified gentlemen out there who do excellent repair and service on Emmons guitars (Bobby Bowman, Mike Cass, etc), but my only personal experienc...

I know a lot of players who don't pay much attention to what the steel players are doing in the background of a tune. That's a big mistake! there's a treasure trove of golden licks in those "fill" verses!

Pete, thanks so much for your kind words. I have to admit, after hanging around Nashville for a few days and hearing the likes of Tommy White, Doug Jernigan, Tommy Hannum, and a few other excellent players on Broadway, I was feeling mighty humble!, so your encouragement means a lot to me , sir. Hope...

This version is from Curtis's first album "Here Comes Cutis Potter", recorded (I'm pretty sure) before Reggie was born. The steel player is Weldon Myrick (my favorite)

Interestingly, Jimmy Day also appears on this album and he and Weldon play together on one cut (Odds and Ends) :)

I'll never forget the first time I saw this film. It was 1998 and my reaction was very similar to Mike's, completely overcome with emotion. It was an absolute epiphany and it immediately changed everything about how I thought about and played music. I played my guitar for 12 hours that night. I was ...

I'm in the same boat as you, Joe. A weird nerve disorder caused me to lose about 95% usage of my middle finger. Ring and pinky don't work either. I didn't injure it or do anything to it. One day it just went away and never came back. Like you, though, I found ways to play around it and went back to ...

Rick, I'm sorry to hear that. I've had to face the same options, mainly drugs and I don't see the point and couldn't afford it anyway. I'm really fortunate to be able to still play as much as I can, so I'm just rolling with it. If this thing gets into my thumb and/or index finger, I'm washed up as a...

Thanks Bob! I just want to clarify, that although I do make my living as a steel guitar player, I am actually going to be on the 6 stringer for this show. I have no idea what I'm going to do other than that. The whole deal came out of nowhere! :?

Good Luck sir. You can definitely overcome your CTS. Dystonia is a tougher one but it has been done. If you do conquer it I'd sure like to know how you did it. :)

Yes, Focal Hand Dystonia, or "Musician's" Dystonia, as it is sometimes known, is a real bummer. I developed it in my right hand a couple of years ago when I started having difficulty playing things that used to come very easily to me. It progressed rapidly until I reached the point where I...

Excellent point David, New music is produced with every single nook and crannie filled with something so the end result is like a solid block, and about as interesting. Kind of like the difference between looking at the grand canyon and a paved parking lot. MANY Texas based traditional bands feature...

No, sir, that is Chris Miller (brother of forum member Ian Miller) doubling on guitar and steel, Wayne's only travelling lead man at the time (ca.1996). He now plays with dave Alvin.

*this is, ofcourse, in reference to the above picture, not the recording, which is indeed Jeremy Wakefield.
