Stephen, Yes, you did say "when he retired". My point was that I always felt Bill should have been the leader throughout his Navy career. But due to the vagaries of playing music within a military system, that wasn't possible. It was all about rank (obviously). Not arguing with you, just a...

Jeff, you are mis-informed on that one. No, it's correct and those aren't my words, that's direct from our official description and press releases during the day. Fleet bands have specialty groups, but their secondary mission is to support ceremonial functions and perform other duties, as directed....

I rarely post here anymore but there are some inaccuracies and misconceptions I need to clear up. I must make mention of Pat Gulley - their Nashville-based steel player Pat may be from Nashville originally but all Country Current members are based in Washington DC and live in the metro DC area durin...

Dan, I did pass along your comments to Curtis and he said to tell everyone thanks for the wonderful feedback and that he is most grateful. Harold, My setup depends on which show you're watching. The first half of the season I used my normal stage setup, which is a Revelation pre-amp into a TC Furlon...

I couldn't agree more about Curtis. He's a crowd favorite at the Grapevine Opry live shows for his singing and also for being one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet.

Many thanks for your kind words.

I'm not going to call him a liar, you can. I will. Either that or, more likely, he had no idea what he was talking about. I went to the Carter factory for various reasons many times and saw all the guitars, including Starters, in various stages of construction. In fact, as I recall there was one spe...

My wife and I went to see the Dean Parks concert last night and it was superb. I admit to being a little surprised to see that a steel player could draw such a large and receptive crowd but there ya go. It was also a somewhat bittersweet reunion for me with an old girlfriend -- the steel I had last ...

Richard, There are two primary tools for manipulating text with Acrobat: the Typewriter tool and the TouchUp Text tool. The first overlays text and isn't particularly useful for your needs. The second is the one you want. From the Acrobat menu, select Tools > Advanced Editing > TouchUp Text Tool . T...

I'll bet you can. Acrobat Pro can edit any PDF that doesn't have security enabled. Which Acrobat tool are you using to make text edits?

With due respect, the National Anthem is not a song about personal freedom. Literally, it's about the author's awe and wonder at seeing the symbol of our young country survive an artillery bombardment at Fort McHenry. Metaphorically, it's about endurance, sacrifice, and perseverance. To the extent t...

As a former military musician, I found this deeply offensive. I can handle botched lyrics; stuff happens. But this was the aural equivalent of dragging our flag on the ground. We have flag etiquette, perhaps we need anthem etiquette. As Tony above and thousands on the 'net have pointed out, it's abo...

If you're interested in understanding structure and analysis of all the Beatles songs from a musicologist's point of view, you really should check out Alan Pollack's Notes on The Beatles . In 1989 the American musicologist Alan W. Pollack started to analyze the songs of the Beatles. He published his...

No need to convert. If you want to continue to use the built-in player, simply add the Flip4Mac codec to QuickTime. Then, WMA files will play seamlessly in any OS X scenario:

My foot is centered over the #6 pedal only. Then I pivot for 5&6 or 6&7 without moving my heel. Pedal 6 by itself functions like the AB pedals on E9, moving from a 1 to 4 chord or a 5 to 1.

Also, the 5th pedal produces a 2 dominant seventh, not a minor seventh.

It is the progressive scan (repeating every other line) that cause computers to go nuts. Since they are NOT designed for that; it was designed for TV sets. Just in the interest of clarity, and with due respect for Carl, actually the opposite is true. An interlaced display is the type that alternate...
