WTB Used Peavey 1501-4 BW

I think the speaker in my Session 400 is about to give up the ghost. I get a "frying" sound on sustained notes. Just spent quite a bit of money on this amp on mod and repair, so I assume it's the speaker and not the amp. Although the reverb has stopped working too. I'll just go back to my ...

Heavy Stuff

I spend a LOT more time playing through/listening to my amps than I do carrying them. There are casters, 2-wheel dollies, etc. I believe I'll just hang on to my Twin. And my Session 400. PSGs aren't what I'd call light. When weight gets to be a problem for me, I'll take up the b*njo.

1965 Twin Reverb, 15" JBL D-130 speaker. Grille cloth is period correct, but not original. I still have the 2x12 baffle board with the original grille cloth. This one isn't a museum piece, but it's a heck of a player.

I've played fiddle for 40 years, and never found anything close to being as good as the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI preamp. I've tried several hi-dollar/hi-end pre's, and either sold them or sent them back because none did the job like the Baggs. I don't even use an amp anymore if I'm playing through ...

I'll tell ya a story, for whatever it might be worth to you. About 20 years ago, I started having a major problem with my '65 Twin. I'd turn it on at a gig, and it worked great for about 5 minutes. Then it would literally start screaming. I took it to 5 different techs over a period of about 6 month...

A couple of references to "vintage" amps have been made in this thread. I own a '65 Twin Reverb with a D-130 which I happen to think sounds pretty dang good, so you'll not hear me dissing these old amps in any way. But... these were/are production run amps, mass produced in a factory, and ...

In 1982 we went to a Gatlin Bros and Anne Murray Concert... 1982? Thirty years ago ??? Man, you don't hold a grudge or anything like that, do ya? By God, he pissed me off back in '82 ... In 1982 Larry Gatlin was at the top of the mountain, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if he was arrogant ...

I played through a '65 Twin Reverb for 25 years and as far as I'm concerned, that's the benchmark for reverb. When I switched to solid state Peavey amps ~8 years ago, after trying out everything they had at Guitar Center at the time, I settled on the Boss RV-5. That was before Boss came out with the...

I play way more fiddle than I do steel, and use all George L's with my fiddle setup. They do brighten the tone a bit, which you don't need for fiddle, but I can easily compensate with my LR Baggs preamp. I'm convinced I get better clarity and a "smoother" tone with George L's. They make it...

I have a '65 Twin. Picked in up in 1977. Len, you're gonna like it, a lot! That amp and my old '51 Nocaster is a marriage made in heaven! That is exactly what a Tele is supposed to sound like. It's a great steel amp, too.

Enjoy!

Hello Erv,

I'd like to have a copy of How Great Thou Art. I'd also like to have a copy of your latest tab list as well, if you don't mind. If you prefer to email the tab list, you can email it to jwt-jr at sbcglobal dot net. I believe you have my postal mailing address.

Thanks so much!

Paul, I expect your speakers are 12" rather than 10". Before you go and change anything, just unhook the #2 speaker. That's what I do with my Twin. You will find that you get a different, tighter sound that to me is more pleasant with steel. Another plus is it sounds great with guitar tha...

For me it has always been a delicate balance between having a little fun and making a little money. The Urban Cowboy era in the 80s was great. I'm a traditional country guy, but during that time the band I was with did very well playing a mix of Top 40 at the time, rockabilly and traditional country...

Ken Fox

I put Ken's chips in a late model NV400, and the improvement was remarkable! I used that amp mainly for fiddle, and fiddles absolutely torture amps. Compared to electric fiddle, getting great amp tone from a PSG is a walk in the park. Most give you an upper-middy "horn" tone that you just ...

Twin Reverbs and JBL D130s go together like bacon and eggs. I've got a '65 with a D130, and it sounds like 'buttah'. A bit weighty, but quite a bit lighter than one with 2-D120s. Pedal steel, Tele, fiddle; they all sound great through this amp. That's a tall order for any amp.

There were two different Session 500 amps. The early one was two separate chassis as stated. They used the 400BH power amp module (similar to the one used on some of the PA systems)and a separate preamp module. The later amps were all on one chassis, like the Nashville 400 amps. Which one is the be...

Bill - Sure! Give me a holler! I'll let you have a look at that old fiddle in its current condition. Ken - Don't know where I got the idea, but I thought you were working on vintage tube amps only. Are you still doing intensive mods on the old Session 400s? This is an early one with the metal knobs....

Fox Chip Upgrade for Session 400?

Does anyone know if Ken offers a Burr-Brown chip upgrade for the Session 400? I found the upgrade kit for the Session 500 on his website, but didn't see one for the Session 400. Second question, I intended to get Ken's intensive mod done on my Session 400 once I got the cash rounded up, but it looks...
