String Break Investigation

Maybe this is common knowledge but I found this interesting and discovered you can sometimes hear a string failing before it breaks. My 5th string was making a slight buzzing/sitar sound when I would press the A pedal. It would only occur about half way into the pedal press. I suspected the finger s...

I liked the conversation: "Why do only old guys play it?" "Because it's almost a lost art Cory, and alot of the music today is stupid so they don't use them. Now days these kids press a few buttons on a computer and think they are making music. This is a real instrument. It takes an a...

How about the balance of the wound/unwound strings after hours of playing for those of us who don't change strings until at least 1 or 2 break :) ? I find the plain strings retain their tone as long as you clean them, but the wound strings start losing brightness immediately. For this reason, I lean...

Sold!

Damirs computer is still broken and he asked me to announce the guitar has been sold. (to me :D )

I resisted as long as I could, but I really missed the Emmons original I sold some years ago. I think this will do just fine :).

I always prefer to use paypal to protect both buyer and seller Is there anything specific you have to setup to protect the buyer/seller when using paypal? How does it work? I have a Paypal account and hope to buy a black Emmons original or Promat soon, but I fear sending payment and the guitar neve...

Basic shielding will do a good job at preventing electric fields from causing hum/buzz. I find the much more difficult problem is with Magnetic fields. These can penetrate non ferrous metals easily. This includes shielding we use like copper, aluminum foil, etc. You can completely wrap your pickup i...

It's always interesting when your pickup note start on the 2 and the drummer gives you: "one". :)

Many ways work. The trick is having all band members knowing which method it will be.

I agree. I cant imagine a 5/8" steel rod would sound too good as a 1st string. Let's use a modicum of common sense, shall we? OK 5/16" :) I think almost any guage can work. It depends on the sound you want or what sound fits the song you are playing. Not everyone wants a full thick...

I can't talk with experience for pedal steels, but certainly the adage that "thicker strings=better tone" for 6-string guitars is a bit of a myth. It's fully related to how hard you pick the string. If you dig into the strings (a la Stevie Ray) then you'll need a heavy gauge. If, like me ...

Making Simple chord charts on computer?

What do you recommend? I want something that can do superscipt (to get for example the # sharp symbal up where it should be. I also want it to hold the format so if I email a chart the spacing wont get mixed up. Im not looking for some expensive program. I'm almost happy with Wordpad, but not quite....

I start with a tempered chart but more and more I fine tune it by ear. I'm Kind of in a transition and trying to find what I like best. The problem is the better my ear gets at hearing "in tune" steel the more discouraged I get as I feel i'm never in tune. Some times I want to unlearn, unt...

I've done it both ways and don't feel i'm missing out either way. Sometimes I prefer it more in 1 ear to balance out the drums that are mostly in my other ear.

It may be simpler to point out what doesn't affect the tone, or what affect the tone the least. Like if you play with the lights on or off.. But then the heat from the bulb could be a factor too. Or what you ate for lunch.. The 2 pounds you gained will transfer to the floor causing the vibrations of...

Sho-bud Professional parts?

http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/3761/fronttoplr9uv.jpg I got this shobud several years ago in poor mechanical condition as a second steel. I also own a Emmons push pull but am finding I really like the tone of the sho-bud so much that I want to fix it up and get the tuning a stable as possible a...

Fender Dual Professional tone control/capacitor

Anyone know the value of the tone pot and capacitor in the Dual Professional?

I want to get a dual professional but for now have to use my fender 1000. I find the tone control doest have quite as extreem tone swell effect and want to get closer to the dual pro sound.

Just curious. What are the 2 smaller toggle switches for? I have the same guitar but no toggle switches. The holes are there though.

Thanks,
