Scott, The PBS series is on DVD from Amazon and others and it is called "Honky Tonk Blues". It's the best documentary on Hank and has all of the film footage taken of him (Which, unfortunately is very little). Helms did play steel on "Lost Highway" in the '49 "Health and Hap...

I've had a 6 string Gold Tone for about 7 months now and I love it. Great sound for the price. Haven't had a problem with the volume pot because I rest my hand on pickup cover most of the time. The amp you have is good for practice. I use a Fender Frontman Reverb. Jump in and have fun.

Hank and Don

Don was the only Drifting Cowboy that played regularly with Hank During 1952, the band having been disbanded by Hank before his spinal surgery in december, 51. The only other member that played with him at all during this time was Jerry Rivers. I'm curious to know when Don started using a volume ped...

Honky Tonk Blues

Does anyone have E13 (Don Helms) tab for Hank Williams' "Honky Tonk Blues"in A? There's a spot in the middle of the solo that has me stumped. It takes the 3rd and 6th strings from the 17th fret to the 16th and 15th fret when the song transitions from A to D chord and I don't know where it ...

I hadn't thought about the long scale vs short, but that makes sense as the Goldtone is long scale. Its mainly the G# string with is a.012 gauge. Maybe I should try a .010. Anyway, I love the nostalgia and challenge of the lap steel and hope to one day get good enough to play and own a twin neck con...

I've been reading your forum for the past 2 months and really enjoy it. I've played a little guitar and piano all of my life, but recently bought a Goldtone lap steel and have been trying to teach myself to play it. For the money, it has a good sound. It came tuned in open D and I tried to learn a f...
