It is my recollection that Cal's first major car dealership was a HUDSON AGENCY in the early 50's on Slausaon Ave in Huntington Park, Ca he would do live shows from the floor of the Garage. It wasn't too long until he changed to a Dodge Agency and went on from there. Once he booked Marty Robbins at ...

Some of your Fans might not know that Jeremy plays only Non-pedal Steel Guitars. The last time I
saw him in early 2012, he was playing an older 2-neck Richenbacher.

Sorry to hear of Clyde's passing. I worked with Clyde on the Johnny Moseby band in the late 50's. Clyde was a lot of fun to be around and play with. I also remember his wife at the time, Thelma. Back then we played at the Shamrock in Lomita, Ca. and the Jubilee Ballroom in Baldwin Park, Ca.

I'ts not Noel Boggs but he is using a lot of Bogg's syle and phrasing. Boggs was an enourmous influence on Steel Players through the middle 50's amd was easily imitated on simpler Songs.

IMHO, If this was not announced as Texas Playboy Rag very few non musicians would have recognized it. This was first written and recorded by Noel Boggs with the Bob Wills Band. Joaquins verson became a jazz Fest with the Tex Williams band using the same chord structure. There was a basic melody when...

Bob Night is correct about Johnny and Joany Moseby with Ralph on Steel. Also the Album Cover cinched it ! I worked with Johnny and Joany around 59' and 60' on Friday and Saturday nights at the Jubilee Ballroom in Baldwin Psrk, Calif. After the dance on a Friday night the Ballroom burned to the groun...

This was a Spade Cooley arrangement. Not sure of which year this was recorded. It is not the first original version from 1945. I believe the Steel Guitarist was Joaquin Murphy with some new licks and phrasing. The only other possibility is that this was the Spade Cooley Band after it was taken over ...

During my playing days I always used a combination E9th and E13th on my outside 12-string neck (left in the high C# string). On my inside 10-string neck I used an A6th tuning. (Sierra D10-12 with 9 pedals and 4 knee levers).

In the So.Calif. area it was not only Alcohol but little pills called Benzadrine and Dexatrine also entered the Music scene. Earl Finley - Lead Guitar player Westerm Swing Era

My old Buddy from the old Western Swing Era passed away at age 88 last week. We played with the Ole Rasmussen Capitol recording Band from 1946 thru 1955. Earl also was part of the last Bob Wills road band along with Jimmy Wyble and Steel Player Billy Bowman. This Band was active for about 6 months b...
