Baz's effort to read Japanese prompted me to contact Mr Yasu Kamiya direct who runs Canopus. As Andy says it's a coil tap switch to change the impedance of the pickup to 8k, 11k or 14k so that you get three type of sound, mellow, normal or crisp(sharp). Caps are not used here. It’s likely that the neck pickup(closer to the fretboard) of the lower neck is not working. Try to tap lightly the top of the suspect pickup by tip of a screwdriver while the D8 is plugged into an amp with both necks on and the blend controls turned all the way to the right. If the pickup is good yo...

Doug, You are right. Fender Stringmasters seem not to have a consistent S/N system. We try to date it by putting together various information such as production date scribbled in the tuner cavity, pot code, pat pend or pat number stamped on the tuner pan, s/n on the control plate, shape of the knobs,...

Gruhn's Guide says: "Patent pending notice on tuner assembly: pre-1963" So it looks like '56 or a bit later. What is the number stamped on the control plate behind the blend pot? It doesn't tell exact year but will give a ball park year. My record shows: Number--- MM/YY 0042----- 11/55 026...

Legs for Vintage Pedal? Steel 7/8" dia Thread

I have a set of legs(4) with 7/8" dia thread for perhaps a vintage pedal steel. They are clean and clutch etc work fine. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0903/590_odd_size_legs_2.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0903/590_odd_size_legs_001_2.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userp...

Baz,
Thank you very much for your invaluable input.
BTW,the picture is found very creative for the shot of the thread with a colorful shirt and clean shaved chin as a back drop.
Now it seems my odd legs have lost a body to support.

Thanks Rick. It's very likely since two of the legs have a ring attached to the inner shaft that may serve as a guide ring to attach the pedal rack.See pix below. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0903/590_Leg_for_Stringmaster_too_big_II_1.jpg To make Rick's kind assessment doubly sure I would l...

What this leg for?

I've got odd legs(four) assuming they would fit Stringmaster but in fact they are too large. The picture compares the leg(right) with Stringmaster's(left). The leg is roughly measured as follows: Outer pipe diameter Odd leg 1" Stringmaster 7/8" Thread diameter Odd leg 7/8" Stringmaste...

Hi folks, I cannot help chiming in here as the name familiar to us, Yumiko, is being paid big attention here. What Ron and Derrick said are quite right and it’s amazing that she has already been recognized well in the island, thanks to Lion Kobayashi’s efforts to expose her whenever/wherever possibl...

Thank you guys for nice words. They are really encouraging. The intro is Lion Kobayashi version which as Josh points out helps to glide into the melody smoothly. FYI,the B11th here is a Hawaiian B11th:(L to H) LowB F# B D# F# A C# E. while JB's is: LowB A C# D# F# A C# E. Jack Isomura Yokohama, Japan

A student of Kiyoshi "Lion" Kobayashi posted on You Tube many Lion's videos aired quite a few yeas back. The one I like most is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdIhe4-983k It's a 1991 broadcast clip and collaboration with a swing jazz band/singer. You see Lion busying himself to put togeth...

Being that I have a Guya does this mean that my D8 Guya is possibly pre 1948? Unlikely. I doubt if MATSUKI people were that fast in making a D8 almost concurrently with Fender's introduction of Dual Pro. Although in 1948 "GUYATONE" was introduced as the brand name, they have not discontin...

I know this is a belated posting but I felt I should share with you the history of GUYATONE the way I learned it: MATSUKI MFG, a predecessor to GUYATONE, was founded in 1933 to make wooden housing fixtures like Shoji screen. Other than that its pre-war activities are little known. Soon after the WWI...

It's a great cab not only for D130F but for vintage Jensen C15N. The latter had been on the shelf for quite some time but now is resurrected in Tommy's cab. It sounds "musical". I like the sound of Deluxe Reverb with D120F but it's back breaking heavy. Now I put DR in a head cab to drive D...

I agree with John. The ground wire and the staple would not be the culprit unless a heavy gauge wire is used. Changing screws to longer ones would be effective to improve sustain from "normal" to "a tad better". Another approach would be to: 1. put all back on(control plate screw...

I had similar problem. Suggest to check the floowing: 1. Take off the bridge bar and inspect its bottom (where it touches bumps on the control plate) to see if the particular spots are rusted or chrome plating get blistered, and, 2. tighten the screws which fasten the control plate to the wood body....
