Came across your videos on youtube bout 3 weeks ago, love how you challenge the norm. Those big open harp chords are great. To the beginner they could be fantastic as long as they have a musical background with another instrument and are starting pedal steel with an ear.Actually scratch that as everyth...

When we run out of metal!

What we gonna do when we run out of metal? To make strings?! The way things are going we will.Wood too. Already the earth is raped.Always kept old string jus incase I need to melt em down and make a die to extrude and wind them,Ok I'm sounding rediculous. Bought a Les Paul 15 yrs ago which was Brazil...

Wow at Ray Montee,Brilliant.Part of the reason I asked was cos strings are expensive and really hard to get in the UK for universal 12 string.Almost always have to order them from abroad, the there is taxes etc,and buying singles is costly,is pound for dollar and more, sometimes lots more. Like you gu...

What's the longest time you've gone without a string change?

Longest time without a change?apart from the obvious breakage of strings 3 and 5 etc. And how long will a set keep tune over an extended time? I play steel at gigs only bout 3 times a year and practise only an hour a week or so,other stuff going on.A set has lasted me as much as a year at times and ...

I am also an avid Mark Knopfler fan and often play six string like him with bare fingers.I play pedal steel with picks but occasionally in rehearsal take them off to roll a cigarette, then the band kicks off and I find myself playing without picks and often find a new tone, and things are easily muted...

Wtb 12 string pickup

My old Shobud pickup is well old and weak (1975). It has gone a little microphonic and lacks volume and clarity and separation I think. If anyone has a 12 string pickup that is newer and suitable that they would be willing to sell I may well be interested. Please if anyone has suggestions, pipe in. I...

Bar Ding Protection

Anyone got ideas? When I got my 1975 steel,4 yrs ago it was virtually dingless, anyway I let a nephew of mine play it a couple of years ago and he lost interest fast and then dropped the bar between necks heavily dinging it.Just tonight I did the same by accident as I dropped the bar,and thought to my...

Thanks a lot Mike,Well miracles do happen!
