The only reason to move the floor pedals is if you can't use the left knee levers comfortably with the current position of the ABC floor pedals. I owned a 1974 MSA Classic that came stock with 5 floor pedals and four knee levers. Unfortunately the two left knee levers were located too far to the rig...

Hi Fred as others have mentioned there is no substitute for sitting down at a steel before you buy. Buying used lets someone else take the initial hit on depreciation. Depending on how flexible your left ankle is it is nice to confirm the left knee levers are positioned comfortably for you and the a...

I saw one similar to this, may have been the same one it looked to have a circular logo in the middle of the front apron. A closer look it said "Hughey". Later learned at one time he and John Hughey built a few models. This one was a red finished, no transparent finish. This was at Cain's...

I have never been able to figure out what pedal steel Lew Houston was playing on this video with Conway Twitty. It looks similar to an old Sho-Bud and is sure not a Fender. Anyone know the make of that single eight steel?

MSA always seemed to place the left knee levers too far to the right closer to the changer making the knees hard to operate for E9 unless you played Day. The 1974 MSA Classic I owned I had to redo the undercarriage to shift the floor pedals to the right one space so I could use the knees comfortably...

I talked to Noel back in 1992 and cost with flight case and shipping to US was $4500 for a guitar similar to Tom Brumley's or Al Perkins'. Later on before he retired cost was $8000 to $9000. Whoever buys this one will get a very special part of PSG history.

Is Steel Guitar Fading Away?

Dobro is almost never heard on commercial country music any more. You still hear a pedal steel once in a while but producers sure seem to have a bias against hiring steel players now. Thank God for Marty Stuart keeping the flame alive. Also kids do not seem to be interested in learning steel. When I...

Good luck with the sale. Can not go wrong with a Pedalmaster. I was not aware that Roy used the aluminum Pedalmaster logo on any of his later guitars after he switched the name to The General. The '92 keyless Pedalmaster I sold to Daniel Cormier was the nicest guitar I ever owned.

Pedalmasters are great guitars, and underappreciated. I played a keyless SD-10 for 15 years with nary a problem. Extremely well built. Ernest, you have had this guitar listed for 4 months, that should tell you that you will have to lower your price more than $50 to sell it. If you had dropped the pr...

Mike Johnson is one of the best there ever was. And this show really lets him shine. My only complaint about I have about Mike is that he doesn't seem to age (like JD and Bobby Black). Hammer ons and pull offs are used a lot when playing dobro and you need a steel with a sharp front edge for clean pull offs. I think I have used every dobro bar made and keep coming back to the Shubb GS. Very comfortable to hold with the wood handle and priced right. Jimmy Heffernan has some good in...

That's a Goldtone PBS, the mahogany laminate version. If it was set up at the Beard factory with a Beard cone there will be a label glued to the back stating that, inside the left sound hole.

You can buy an E.G. Smith steel bar from Greg Boyd's House of Fine Instruments. Quality on these bars has been variable, I recommend you ask for one that has a playing surface that is a full 3.0 inches long, also make sure the playing surface is flat, not concave or convex.
