Half-stop design required
I am a newbie with a homemade PS which uses one-piece fingers. The nut on the lowering rod holds the open tuned finger in position. The lowering pedal moves the nut and the finger toward a tuneable back-stop thereby slackening the string. It is possible to have more than one raise with this configur...

Amateur newbie here. What I do is take a roll of wall-plastering paper tape and cut off a piece to fit the neck. Then I mark where the actual frets are with pencil by placing it on the neck. Next I mark the frets with black felt pen and a small tee square I made from scrap wood. I use the edge of a ...

conversion kit required
Does anyone know of a 6 to 8 string resonator guitar conversion kit that is available, or a site that shows how to do a home brew job?

Mini Chord Location Chart for Newbies
<font face="monospace" size="3"><pre>I am a newbie, and I have made myself a mini chart of chord locations for E9 tuning. It may be helpful to other newbies. The chart is based on the minimum copedent shown below. Knee G is very helpful in obtaining a "down" (v) chord: ...

C6 lever analysis
More newbie thinking: I have just been analysing C6 copedents since I am in the process of building another PSG. Some guys put a D on top and some put a G on top, and keep swapping them as the mood hits them. Herby W's C6 201 book shows two extra levers for a total of three. Herby uses a G on top. A...

Slacker Latch
I am a newbie with minimum PS skills, and strange ideas, so I'd like to run something by you pros. To make strings last longer, what do you think of the idea of a precision "Slacker Latch" that would move the changer assembly 1/4 inch to the left when PSG is not in use. When the latch is p...

6 on 9
In a post of mine on string-9 dissonance in the "Steel Players" section (resonating with 8 and 10) Bobby Lee said: <SMALL>You don't happen to tune your 9th string to C#, do you? (Some people do.)</SMALL> Thanks Bobby! I thought I would be shooting the sacred E9 cow doing this, but now I hav...

Bryan Bradfield says: <SMALL>On dobro, I use a bar with quite a sharp cut-out. I do all of my single string work with a tipped bar, contacting only one string at a time.</SMALL> Newbie solution, and probably a bad idea: My bar has a bullet nose one end and a flat end on the other. How about you turn...

Thanks guys for all the sound advice. No, Bobby, the 9th string is D. If the tune is played at fret 3 instead of 8 the effect is more noticeable. To me a 7, a 7b and a 5 don't make a nice sound. Its not a big deal since I am not playing for a living (I'd starve!) I think Lucky's solution works for m...

I wound the pickup myself ... about 5000 turns of wire. You will see tape on the end where the cover started to lift. It is hummy since it is a single coil. May replace that when I can play better. There is a birch extension on the finger end since I had to stretch the return springs further than th...

OK ... I had to sign up for a photo dump place. Here are the pix. The dangling thing is the cord on the camera. I also edited out shots of my wooly sox in a couple of them. I used rubber bands to hold back the levers to get some shots. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-4/1170557/mar23-06005x.JPG h...
