Mike and I played in Roselyn's Music Band years back. Excellent steel player enjoyed going to the jams and steel celebrations to see him play. Always a smile on his face :)
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends.

Hello John,

Do you use a buffer out of your pickup?

The tone will be different without a buffer because the cap will shift the resonant peak down in frequency slightly.
Test to see if you can hear the difference.

Just a thought :)

Hi Dave, 120pf gives a slight boost. I think the circuit is more about not loading the pickup down and keeping the highs. I agree with Georg my taste likes a little boost 5-6KHz. I think keep tinkering and testing to suit your taste. Just be aware that more gain will bring you closer to clipping, as...

That will give you ~ 13db of gain @ 1.4kHz that is right around the pickups resonant pk. That's quite a bit of drive in that area. Around 700mv of input you will start to see some clipping of your signal (with a 9V battery). As the battery voltage drops clipping will increase. I have measured peaks ...

Wow a lot has happened on the post since the last time I looked, that's awesome :) 10MEG resistor would give about 10db of gain at ~280Hz. Should hear a difference in the low end. Another thought.... The resistors may be read from the other direction violet, green, black black brown 75K ohms? (hard ...

I thought I would provide some values for Georg's modified buffer. They should be a good starting point, pretty level through range peaking between 5K-6Khz. (6-8db)

***Updated was designed with obsolete FET now with an available FET link below*** Tinkered with the circuit above: Adjusted to allow for larger drive signal and allow for battery operation down to 6V / Gain slightly less around 2db http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/central-semiconductor-corp/...

I have to say that I experienced this recently. I was so nervous my fingers got stiff and didn't want to move. Didn't know if my sound was to soft or to loud. It was the first time playing out at a Jam. Can't wait for the next one. :)
